YAY..:D makes me feel good on a very crappy day.

    99 tailgate window

Nope. If the car thinks the window is open, nothing works! What you have to do is get the switch working properly, then push the window all the way up on the switch and hold ten seconds, then all the way down, and hold ten seconds. That seems to reset the software. Then everything springs to life

    starting problem

There are a couple of things that only affect starting - camshaft sensor is one. Mmm. No fault codes. check crankshaft and camshaft sensors and wiring. Camshaft wiring failure quite common I believe

What have you done to your Freelander today

    99 tailgate window

Depends on your skill set. In my case the door was apart , the tie wraps were there as were the wire cutters, but the soldering iron was a long way away as was the heat shrink

    99 tailgate window

Ah. My replacement regulator did that and I had to turn the motor gearbox over in the door Meaning the cables had to be a bit rerouted too.

    shaking at 60

OK. vibration that is speed related is generally wheel and tyre related. Vibration that is also affected by pwer level is generally transmission eccentricity chased by shot bearings and UJs. Crawl under and look for obvious play in drive shafts and the propshaft. Chances are you will find the...

    starting problem

Try and check fuel pressure also. Its a hard one to diagnose: all you can tell is that fuel is not getting ion for some reaosn. Fuel pump, blocked filter, blocked pipe, dodgy sensor (crank) dodgy iinjectors - you should get the codes read as you can spend a lot of money chasing things that are...

    GEARBOX woes

Mmm. There is one possibility left.. Whatever is driving the coils.... That is there might be a common earth on the bank of coils that's corroded, or a bad connector connecting it to the ECU, or a bad ECU...???

    Car shaking to bits

sounding more and more like drive shaft coupling ..from memory of they are gone enough to do this, the play will be bloody obvious with a hefty wiggle...

Do you regret buying a Freelander?

no, but then if you get a car that is, you dont get the driving position, the load carrying capacity or the off road capability. I overtook a porsche 911 once in my series III. Its not the car, its how you drive it... :behindsofa:

Do you regret buying a Freelander?

nah, VCU is there - that's why putting power on keeps the nose in.. I dont go for big acceleration, but I do like to push through the bends a bit..

    Are they the same?

standard upgrade to a racing mini was a breathed on 1600. I saw an MG midget with auto box and a V6 in it once. But the best was a 5.3 litre chevy engine in a ford pop. the guy driving it overtook a porsche at 145 mph ...

    Car shaking to bits

Worn joints in the transmission can cause that - you get a drive shaft or part of the propshaft going off centre. Is it engine related? Dip the clutch and drop the revs at speed..? Is it speed related - most transmission vibrations will be.

TD4 irregular poor start when hot

low voltage can cause all manner of problems and may be no more than a corroded battery terminal. That will only really show up when starting as that's when current demand on the battery is at its highest. If you have a voltmeter, check battery voltage when cranking and the check voltage on...

TD4 irregular poor start when hot

OK, so the fuel is getting to the right place in the right quantities, except when it doesn't! Now that may be one of the sensors - but not temp - think about it. A cold engine needs MORE fuel so if it thinks its cold when its hot, it will over fuel and smoke. I suspect one of the crank or cam...

TD4 irregular poor start when hot

I cant remember which it is - the crank or the cam sensors - that is ONLY involved in starting. Id be interested to hear whether when it DOES start it is smoky or essentially clean. Also, bad hot starting can be a fuel pump in the way out. If its also down on power (later model with but one...

Do you regret buying a Freelander?

In my overlong driving life I have owned many cars. And driven even more, but few stick in the mind as cars I have loved. Despite all their bad features. I loved my Opel Manta, and my XJS and XK8 and XKR I loved my landrovers - series III, DefenderTD5 and two Freelanders. I quite...

    rear tailgate window mech

the cables need to be tightish so there is no hysteresis when starting the motor from down to up etc, and the whole assembly needs to be balanced so the window isn't slanted so to speak. I reckon, and its an educated guess, that the computer works out where the top and bottom are by the simple...
