    Freelander TD4 Black smoke!!!

Right hand side looking from the front, yes. L shaped thing. Its simply two circlips to undo and she comes off easy. 2 minute job, five to clean the oil off your hands afterwards. Just needs one screwdriver. Symptoms are dense smoke low power, a turbo whistle and in the final stages engine...

The way round that is to connect the ammeter to a dead short, and then to the battery and the car, and then remove the dead short once the initial surge is over I may do that in due course

OK, new battery in, radio lost code, but on putting in new battery there were sparks, even though everything was switched off. No wipers headlight etc etc. What is the easiest way to rest if there is something flattening the battery?

I'll have to look in the handbook to see how to extract it. It is very 'built in'

Nope. Looks like there has never been one. I am hoping (but frankly not expecting) a call back from land rover dealer. They say having the radio serial number helps, but how to extract it?

All in title. My beloved hippo wouldn't get out of bed this morning, just had enough power to unlock drivers door. Showing about 8V on the battery terminals. Mate is fetching new battery from HalFrauds, will it be straight swap and back up? I hope nothing is 'causing' it.

Freelander 1, TD4, 2006; Juddering noise from NSR wheel area when turning right

Its a well known fact by all the experts here that any strange noise requires immediate replacement of the VCU. Even the sound of your wife sobbing gently in the back seat.

    Window Regulator

the only regulator I haven't replaced in my 5D hippo is the front passenger one. Buy quality from a decent supplier, take your time. and with a reasonable selection of tolls., it all comes right.

    My hippo is quacking!

I thought new tyres on the front was the right way round?

    My hippo is quacking!

Joking aside, it makes the noise more or less correlated with road speed. So its in the transmission post gearbox somewhere. It doesn't vary with steering or braking or accelerating. So I kinda ruled out disc/pad rubbing. And possibly wheel bearings, which leaves CV joints and the VCU maybe...

Well you lot are a waste of space aren't you? Poking fun at a pore ole hippo, that's got some kind of drivetrain issue. For shame!

    Td4 poor economy

Have you filled up at Tescos? I have auto TD4 and normally I get 420-440 miles per tank. Two fills at Tesco's and I got 380 miles and 360 miles. Filled at usual place and back to over 400, although this cold weather the fuel burning heater likes to fart fumes at me and chew diesel on the short...

    My hippo is quacking!

Yep. As I go along my merry way I hear a soft quack quack quack...and if I speed up I hear quack-quack quack-quack... Approximately one (or two) quacks, per wheel rev maybe? Braking and turning do not affect it, so I suspect something in the transmission post gearbox(es). Its a facelift 1...
