ATC on caravan - is L322 up to it?

Bought the caravan whilst still using my P38 and the ATC was into the price of the caravan. Although it tows fine behind my L322 I want to fit the extra electrics so that battery charges and reversing lights work - this means the ATC will also work, hence the question.

ATC on caravan - is L322 up to it?

ALCO 's Automatic Trailer Comtrol takes an immediate 15 amp from the supplementary socket. On my P38 the wire was not 'strong enough' so I had to put a dedicated cable in with separate fuse. (It works fine on the p38). I was wondering if anyone knows wether I need to do the same on my L322

ATC on caravan - is L322 up to it?

Hi All, I wired in a separate feed for the ATC on my caravan, and converted my p38 to 13 pin electrics. Do I need to do the same on my L322 or are the electrics in standard form up to it this time? Thanks in advance :)

    Making the leap. P38 - l322

I've done it :) Mind you from P38 2.5 to L322 4.4V8 the difference is brutal (so is my more frequent visits to the petrol station). Love it though!!! Considering lpg conversion.

    Coolant leak when cold

I have a slow coolant leak that seems more noticeable when car has been standing. Sent it in to my garage suggesting it may be water pump as was dripping from bottom of pulley front centre. Picked it up and was told top hose was perished so replaced that!!! That evening spotted leak again so had...

Do I have 'the' gearbox problem or don't i??

I'm doing my best to prove/convince them they've fecked up, but you'd also be amazed who many 'experts' sing the praises of Dexron 3 and the so called equivalents!! Their excuse is always "well Land Rover would say use LT71141 wouldn't they" If I don't get the right outcome from this 'garage'...

Do I have 'the' gearbox problem or don't i??

Update: Well after a lot of hassle over the ATF (including an awful amout of 'so called experts' wanting to use the wrong ATF), I eventually sourced 20 litres of the 100% correct 'Mobil LT71141' for £163 delivered. It has now been changed and already it feels different, changing better...

    ZF5HP24 Oil Change Capacity

Just had mine changed by my garage and each drain was about 4.5 to 5.0 litres, if you drop the sump there could be another litre there. All you are doing with a drain is removing some of the oil each time and then the new oil is mixing with the old stuff. Only way to completely change is with a...

Do I have 'the' gearbox problem or don't i??

He he .... My maths is not that bad after all :) I did it longhand (without spreadsheet) and got exactly the same figure. Now to follow Saints 'how to' and sort the mess out. Thanks guys!! I'll update when job is done.

Do I have 'the' gearbox problem or don't i??

Ok thanks - I've looked at your 'how to' a few times and no doubt a few times more before I do it. :) By my calculations (if I've got my maths right) 3 drains, @ 6 litres each, and refills should equate to about 93% correct fluid (7% mixed which should include old but correct fluid).

Do I have 'the' gearbox problem or don't i??

Ok Saintv8, will do. How easy is it to check oil temp with IR thermometer, is it enough to point at sump? (Sorry for all these questions)

Do I have 'the' gearbox problem or don't i??

The other thought is that assuming the idiots that did the job put about 6lt in, each subsequent partial change will quickly reduce the percentage of 'wrong stuff'. It's only been in for about 4 weeks so hopefully not too much damage. (The nearest 'Megaflush' is 80 miles away and he wants £200...

Do I have 'the' gearbox problem or don't i??

Thanks guys, I've been on to someone who does 'Megaflush' and uses one fluid for all - yet another one who knows nothing about fluids!!! What's best, a full flush via mega flush or me doing it by gradual replacement?

Do I have 'the' gearbox problem or don't i??

Arghhhhhh!!! What do you do when the idiots that did the job in the first place insist they know what they are doing and Dexron 3 is correct. I tried really nicely to suggest they checked for me and all the could say was "Land Rover just did it to get more money". They will be getting a letter...

Do I have 'the' gearbox problem or don't i??

Hi Saint I've found out they definitely used Dexron 3, how do I flush this out and replace with LT71141? Do they mix so doing it gradually replaces it?

Gearbox - at what mileage did yours go

Think mines on its way out! Have the same rumble as others describe on here but can normally 'bypass' it by using steptronic and changing later. Going to try an oil change using LT71141 as recommended on this forum (even though gearbox specialists say Dexron 3 is fine). I'm on 128,000

Do I have 'the' gearbox problem or don't i??

My apologies for bringing up the same question, but bare with me: Overheating L322 4.4 gearbox (cooling mode), changed the rad and oil cooler and seems to be sorted (just done 180 miles with tin tent and no problem) apart from!! ... 1 to 2 secs worth of bad vibration on acceleration. Now this...
