    RRC 200tdi conversion

Hi, Im told the chassis on the 200tdi disco is solid, and the body isnt. A body swap sounds rather more difficult to me because Ive not got a workshop, or any way of lifting the body. So engine mounts need welding, Ive no idea how to weld, so Id have to get a mate to do that for me. Is it just a...

    RRC 200tdi conversion

Ive been offered a rotten 200tdi disco in part ex for my V8 discos. I dont really want it, but its the best offer Ive had. I fancy a 200tdi RRC, so I had a quick look and found an early 90s 4 door without an engine with a few other bits missing. It used to be a V8 auto, and its very cheap, the...

    Its broken.

Yeah, are the ends of the crankshafts the same? Yes I have a torque wrench, no idea if/when it was callibrated. I use multiple sauses. That way someone is guaranteed to be wrong!

Guys, just read a very worrying comment on facebook "Have you fitted it? If not has the auto engine got the hole for the spigot shaft bush?" Anyone know before I pick up the engine hoist tomorrow? Thanks

    Its broken.

Theres my breeding pair of discos. Anyone want to buy them both before I start pulling them apart? No? Didnt think so. (Seriois enqueries welcome)

    Its broken.

How heavy is the engine Im going to lift? (3.9 V8 with manifolds but not fluids) Will 2 strong people be able to lift it with a weightlifting bar and lifting straps, or do I really need an engine hoist?

    Its broken.

Well as some of you may have seen, I was the highest bidder and the seller has agreed to accept my bid, despite it being half the original reserve. So, Im getting both of my land rovers back on wednesday, giving both a liberal application of lubricating penetrant for a few days, and then I need...

Okay clutch kits are much cheaper than I thought so I may as well do that if it comes to it

    Its broken.

I also worked out that since its broken, its cost me about a grand in tax, insurance, parts, diagnosis and transport fees etc. Or about the same as it would have cost me to drive it for 6 months in petrol...

    Its broken.

I mean, its been to one garage, they couldnt do it. Ive had a look at it, I cant do it. Its been to a specialist, they spent an hour looking into it and said its got low compression and quoted me a massive amount to repair it. I mean if you think you could fix it for even a large 3 figure bill...

    Its broken.

    How would I do that?
  14. L

    Its broken.

Yes exactly, real compression test, deffo agreed. So my manual one is an N-reg 1996 3.9 V8i, the donor is a T-reg 1999 3.9 V8i auto. So other than putting a resistor into the park/reverse wire, everything should be interchangable?
  15. L

    Its broken.

Thanks! Yeah I agree its not JUST the engine. And Im going to buy a compression tester thing before I pull the old engine out to double check. Can you explain more about the ecu/adaptive settings/diagnostics? Exhaust gaskets, hadnt thought of that, good point. AC, not sure if mine still has it...

    Its broken.

Already have a torque wrench, spanners and socket set. Might get help from a mate with an impact gun. Are auto and manual ECUs the same? The donor is a T-reg and the manual is an N-reg. Which gaskets will I need? Im not bothering to change the waterpump etc because Im either selling it or...

    Its broken.

Just had my quote from the specialist to change the engine (not including a clutch, or any further work) just over £1100 inc vat. Obviously its not worth doing that. So if I win the other one, Ill get them moved to mine and try swapping it myself. Failing that, Ive just got to cut my losses and...

    Its broken.

Yeah, and its had its fair share of that too. Ive put a bid on a donor, a running V8 auto which hasnt seen the road for a few years. Bid £500, reserve is £1100, will see how much it goes for (probably not worth £1100)
  19. L

    Its broken.

No, apparently they did a "relative compression test" (iirc) Valve positions cant have changed, its a pushrod V8 with a cam chain, and the engine hasnt eaten a load of gravel or anything
  20. L

    Its broken.

Either way, low compression = needs new engine or rebuild. So Ive put a bid on a donor car. Identical to mine, only it runs and is an auto
