    Freelander 1 Better Brakes

What I've had done is: new 'Green Stuff' pads on the front - I believe they're a bit softer and bite a bit more, guide pins cleaned & lubed, on the rear: new drums shoes, springs & wheel cylinders, plus fresh brake fluid. I can't say there has been a great improvement. These things take a bit of...

    Freelander 1 Rear cam

I ran the wiring across to the drivers side and came up through a rubber grommet in the floor being the corner plastic trim panel. The power source is the reverse lamp cable to the rear light cluster. If yours is a wifi then that's prob' about it. Mine isn't and I then ran the cables to the...

    Freelander 1 Re-plumbing the st'd PRT installation

When I flush the heater matrix, water seems to pour out OK, so I don't believe there's a blockage. Possibly my 1.8 is very well cooled! The radiator is quite new, less than 4 years old, new coolant pump & coolant... 2 months ago, replaced the coolant bottle for a VW one, as in comeinhandynow's...

What have you done to your Freelander today

I had my brakes worked on today in an attempt to lift the braking performance at WoF [your MoT] time. It had been coming in at the low 50% efficiency rating. Replaced the front pads to the slightly softer EBC 'Greenstuff' ones, checked & re-greased the guide pins, fitted new st'd brake shoes...

    Freelander 1 Re-plumbing the st'd PRT installation

The heat output from my heater is very poor in cold weather. I watched a presentation from 'comeinhandynow' on youtube. see here. It explains why the heat output is poor and how it can be improved. Has anyone else on LZ looked at this. I'll have to rewatch it a few times to understand it...

What have you done to your Freelander today

I was messing about today fitting an updated coolant level sensor. I've fitted a VW polo coolant tank and it had the sensor set-up in it. So I just bought a switch thingumabob from Aliexpress... I had to take the instrument binnacle apart to trace out my wiring for the warning LED I fitted in...

Hmm, that turret idea could be a great idea for getting parks or sorting dick-head drivers!

What have you done to your Freelander today

Each oil change I swap the tyres from front to rear and vice versa trying to achieve 'even' tyre wear. My spare tyre is still brand new. I moved the rear wheels to the front and one front to the rear, the other I've mounted as my spare. The new tyre I've fitted to the rear driver's side. New...

Freelander 1 Freelander 1 absolute off-road capability limit – have I reached it?

There was a member on here a few years ago who did serious work to his fab L series. iirc he fitted that Quaife diff to his. Have a gander through his posts.

    Freelander 1 My Winter Project

There was some oil showing as a stain in my new VW coolant tank and I feared that my HG was on its way out. No 'mayo' on the dip-stick or under the oil cap, so I took the opportunity this week end to swap the heads over. Over the last two weeks I've been reassembling the replacement head. It's...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Rare accessory! :D a couple of months ago I scored a rare accessory for my '98 K series - a new, boxed & unopened Dash Kit - Wood Look [LF1041] - That'll smarten up the inside! Might have to acquire some sheep skin seat covers to go with it too. :D

    Freelander 1 Hydraulic lifters

For those who remember this is about my winter project from last year! Yesterday I got that head back from the engineers :) They replaced some valve seats and checked and 'trimmed' the valve stem heights. It just requires a light clean, reassembly and it should be good to go. We talked about...

    MOVING FREELANDER 1 REAR LIGHTS

Essentially I've replicated the bumper lights to the upper position and have added a pair of super bright LEDs as my reverse lamps. Vehicle regs in the UK seem to be limiting on this sort of thing. However, that is a good point re the RH indicator / door open situation.

Grinding noise on LHS front wheel

You may have thought of it but it could be something simple - a stone caught between the rotor and the stone shield or a wheel bearing [but they are very noisy!].

    Freelander 1 Uprated suspension????

I replaced the springs on the struts with a set of Dobinsons, and Australian brand. See here. Those in combination with my mud tyres, Maxxis Bravo 753 MT 217-75-15, do provide with a bit more clearance.
