I purchased a 1995 2.5DSE with recently fitted 20" Wheels; they have Landrover centre caps if this helps. From between 50-57mph (in fifth), the car wants to shake itself apart. Below and above these speeds, she's happy.

I drove 100miles going through this speed band as normal and the next day on my drive, I turned the key to find an Alternator Fault message. I checked under the bonnet and found the Serpentine Ancillary Belt with a 2-3" gap near the Alternator Drive side. I also had intermittent Power Steering due to the belt partially engaging

I have a replacement belt on order and will have a play with the tensioner etc. The belt was ok on purchasing.

My questions are:

(1) Could the shudder have been that violent to stretch the Belt off?
(2) Could the shudder have thrown the belt off?
(3) Could the Tensioner be finito due to vibration damage?
(4) Are my Wheels fitted correctly as I have been reading up on 'Spigot Rings' and how critical they are?
(5) Can anyone direct me to a stockist of Locking Wheel Nuts for my wheels? (x5 per wheel). Can post a picture if required.

I have two new front tyres waiting to be replaced as soon as I am mobile again (255/50R20). These will obviously be balanced and I aim to have the best of the remaining tread fitted on the two rears. Will this solve my problems with or without Spigot Rings fitted?

Please help if you can.

Regards

P38, can you tell me how long a piece of string is and and how hard will i have to pull it before it snaps!!!

With only you in the car, nobody else knows how bad the judder is or if the pulley is goosed without looking at it and without taking your wheels off, nobody knows if you wheels are fitted correctly.

Locking wheels nuts are available from most motor factors, if you go through the door and ask for some i am sure they will order them if they do not have any in stock.

I note from your tyre size that the rolling circumference will have increased a fair bit over the standard size, this will put the engine revs lower for a given road speed, this can cause harmonic vibration throughout the drivetrain which would not have been evident when the car was developed, so it may be a long road ahead to eliminate all vibrations.

As far as the accesory drive belt fault, just replace what you can, the belt and tensioner are cheap, and at the end of the day its a '95 DSE, sorting out problems is going to be your new job!

FFS . do a search will ya..

Oohh, someones a bit narky today!! He only asked! :monitor_punch:

Overlander, the elder lemons here get p...d off when people pop up here with questions that have been asked so many times before, and in your case not alone did you not do a search, to add insult to injury, you didn't do any physical checking so that they can help you point to a specific cause.

Half the posters here cannot understand why anyone would put 20inch wheels and such 'bling' on their beloved Landies so you got started on the wrong foot right away.

Do a search under spigots, with big wheels they really have to be bang on or they will give rise to myriad problems such as your own.
