I purchased a 1995 2.5DSE with recently fitted 20" Wheels; they have Landrover centre caps if this helps. From between 50-57mph (in fifth), the car wants to shake itself apart. Below and above these speeds, she's happy.
I drove 100miles going through this speed band as normal and the next day on my drive, I turned the key to find an Alternator Fault message. I checked under the bonnet and found the Serpentine Ancillary Belt with a 2-3" gap near the Alternator Drive side. I also had intermittent Power Steering due to the belt partially engaging
I have a replacement belt on order and will have a play with the tensioner etc. The belt was ok on purchasing.
My questions are:
(1) Could the shudder have been that violent to stretch the Belt off?
(2) Could the shudder have thrown the belt off?
(3) Could the Tensioner be finito due to vibration damage?
(4) Are my Wheels fitted correctly as I have been reading up on 'Spigot Rings' and how critical they are?
(5) Can anyone direct me to a stockist of Locking Wheel Nuts for my wheels? (x5 per wheel). Can post a picture if required.
I have two new front tyres waiting to be replaced as soon as I am mobile again (255/50R20). These will obviously be balanced and I aim to have the best of the remaining tread fitted on the two rears. Will this solve my problems with or without Spigot Rings fitted?
Please help if you can.
Regards
