A new Freelander is coming, apparently.

I've read a report from Autocar this week, about an upcoming release of a new JLR vehicle which will be wearing the Freelander badge.
It looks like it's going to be manufactured in partnership with Chinese car maker Chery.

Apparently, Chery is developing the Freelander electrified range using an in-house "flexible" platform, JLR China head Qing Pan told investors. JLR, meanwhile, is responsible for the design of the new cars.

Autocar has learned that the platform will be Chery’s T1X, which is also used by the company’s Jaecoo, and Omoda, and other Chery brands. The first model is set to be a plug-in hybrid with a design that blends chunky off-road visual cues with a coupé style shape.
It looks like it's set for release in 2026, so it'll be interesting to what appears, closer to that date.

Here's an artist impression of what it's supposed to look like. It doesn't look like it has the practicality of the original Freelander to me.

Looks like something that will be found parked outside the schools and shops, not working in a muddy field.
It won't be in any way a utility vehicle. It'll be another Evoque type LR, where form takes priority over function.
I'm not anti modern vehicle at all, as you know our family car is an EV, but the Ioniq 5 isn't pretending to be something it's not.

The original freelander 3 was rebadged, discovery sport. JLR wanted to move away from the freelander brand which was a shame fl1 and fl2 were/are pretty good cars yes yes I know we all take the ****.

The discovery sport however not so much.
Whatever next Jeep/Defender or Gwagon/Series. I can understand why they build in China because it cheap. The issue is the design of vehicle is so bland and benign. It looks like an AI computer gave up and charged the company billions for the design.
If the future is to accessorise your favourite expensive shoebox to stimulate a dead brain driver. I'd be happy to walk Landy End to the Tip of Unst Shetland.

Hi,

Cheery made very terrible cars in past years.
They seem to have a join venture since 2012 to assemble LR cars for the chineese market.

This will end like MG, designed in the UK ...

Looks like any other electro/hybrid crossover in recent years. Can't wait to see a spec sheet describing similar performance to every other model, but being more expensive than the Chinese cars.

If it performs like a Jaecoo or Omoda, then it'll be as dull as dishwater to drive.
I tried a Jaecoo recently, it made our Ioniq 5 seem like a rocket ship on rails. It was a very underwhelming vehicle indeed.
