Re the airbags, apparently there has been a class action in the US which cost the company millions.
Over time the can thing that holds the explosive deteriorates and lets damp in, so when it goes off it literally explodes rather than going through a very fast burn.
Bits of the metal can go flying sadly towards the driver's throat area. And this is what happened, the guy or woman died basically from a cut throat.

So now thousands of drivers daren't use their cars and it's costing them a fortune as the garages cannot keep up with the replacement process. I haven't looked too deeply into it as ours isn't involved but I would have thought you could have just pulled the airbag fuse and driven like that.
I looked more closely at ours as, one morning, the airbag warning light came on. But it went off next time I started the car, so I did the usual thing and ignored it, until this biz was all over the paper.
