Hi all,

I am a 56 year old guy from Holland who loves the old Laro's.
Owner of a LandRover 109 series 3, build 1980, with Safari rooftop.
Its a RHD, about 15 years agoo imported from the UK to the Netherlands.

I already start with the restauration and stripped the car all the way.
The chassis is totally stripped now and like to start the rebuild.
One of my concerns is that the chassis is crooked but no sure if it is within the (factory) limits.
I hope someone on this forum can support with the decision to start rebuilding or first straighten out the chassis.

Next my idea is to convert from RHD to LHD.

Welcome to the site of disappointment if you own a Evoque. As you mentioned that you stripped down the vehicle. The chassis will need attention if crooked or replace. Can you send a photo of the concerning chassis and the point where you feel it crooked.

Thank you all for your warm welcome.
To be more precise, its a Landrover Series 3, Estate 109 with a 2.3 ltr petrol engine.
The most I worried about the frame, I uploaded some pictures and I hope you can see the issue ;-).
On the picture named "x-kop-aanzicht" you can see that the front right bar is about 1,5 cm lower then the front left bar.
Also the right bar is somehow twisted.
But on the defense of the Laro, all parts were mounted correctly on the frame
and there was also no strange behavior when driving the car which explain a crooked frame.
So my question is: should I start with straighten the frame first?
I hope there are some wise men who can advice me. :)
If its needed that I take some extra (detailed) fotos, please let me know.

There is a LR book defining "Acceptable tolerances" for the chassis I think.
At least maximusironthumper on Youtube refers to one if you look at his project Kermit posts.

That would be a Series 3 109" Station Wagon, and the engine is 2286cc.

Chassis looks pretty OK to me. You could try and twist it back a bit, but it may not be any better when you have finished, the chassis are quite flexible, and twist a bit more in use. Some of them probably weren't very straight from the factory.
You may well find it will straighten up a bit when you bolt all the other bits on.

Thanks for the quick reply, you already set me on the right path with the reference to maximusironthumper.
He is dealing with the same issue (a twisted chassis) and he found a very creative way to straight it out, I love that guy.
My next action will be checking if the chassis is within tolerance as listed in the LR manual handbook.

Maybe you are right, first thing for me to do is to measure the chassis as written in the LR manual, maybe its already within tolerance.
