Best side steps/rails for 300tdi?

hi everyone, just getting use to my 90 I’ve only had her few months and most of the time it’s been off the road as it’s been painted ect, it’s got a 2inch lift kit, I don’t really use it heavily off road, I’ve done some mild green laning and that’s as far as I would do with her from choice, she’s got some
Rock sliders on I think they are called? I’m not 100% sold on them as they are to high to get in and out of the vehicle easily, what would they have fitted originally? What would people recommend? Also it looks odd to me with out the trim (not sure if it’s name) that goes above the normal steps/bars that run from front wheel arch the to rear?

you get used to them. more of a sideways motion to get into the car.

You're Landy looks good, I'd be tempted to leave it.
The trim that was above your rock sliders is called the outer sill.

The outer sill is usually in two parts. A long section that goes from the front wheel arch to the corner of the door. Then a short piece from there to the rear wheel arch. I've got full length ones on mine, but they are not original design spec.
These are the side steps I chose. They all look fairly similar, but I went for ones that hung from the two outriggers. Many hang from the front outrigger and then from the inner sill. I went for these ones as I reckon they'll be stronger and not put stress on the inner sills.
Originally, your Landy would have had a single side step on each side.

Just thinking. Mines rebuilt on to a galv chassis and it didn't have the holes in the chassis rails for the support bar that goes from the chassis rail to the inner sill, to stop the stress on the sill I mentioned earlier. If yours is on the original chassis, it'll probably have those holes.

Here's a pic of the side steps I have fitted they sit lower than the rock sliders you have. Originally was going to fit rock sliders but my oldest daughter had hip surgery when she was younger and wouldn't br able to get in if I had fitted them. She has no problem getting in with these side steps.

My wife can't get in and out of my standard height 90. Shes 30 pregnant. So I'm fitting the same steps as above. But I want black checker plate on my steps.

Nice Land rover @Tomhorner1 but the extended arches are not to my liking.
I had the same rock sliders with standard arches and 32, 11.50, 15 tyres on 8'' rims so if i rubbed a tree with a wheel it would travel down the slider and on to the rear wheel without touching the arches.
I think you need some wider wheels ?

Thanks for the replies, I am not overly keen on the extended arches either, they came with the car so taken them off and painted them when I got her painted. Which others would fit with the modular wheels on? Regarding the outer sill covers what holds them on? Debating to put some lower rails on now or side steps? It has a galvanised chassis so the holes may not be there for the rails as pictured above

I would fit standard wheel arch spats, you can usually get them as "new" takoffs where people have fitted silly (imo) extended archs. Your wheels and tyres are not large enough to need them and will be no problem with standard arches.
the tree slider bar does make it easier to get in and out of over having just the sill, but not as easy as having the step which is a lower height. However being a lower height and not a robust as the tree bar are more prone to damage. When I had the single steps on mine I lost count of how many times I had to straighten them out again after catching them on something. I removed them when I fitted my tree sliders.

Just looking at the description I would be mindful of your usage as they say they are more rigid than the original so will not be as flexible. This may not be a problem for you, but something to bear in mind, probably not suitable if you regularly off road or spend time in the country side brushing up against the hedgerows.

do you have a copy of the instructions you could post up? the ad says full instructions and diagrams included, if you post them up people may be able to give a better idea, the description sounds like the clamp on?

They are very easy to fit. They push fit in to the metal 'wheel arch' aperture of the wing. They have holes in them that line up with holes in the underside of the metal wing. You push the plastic fixings in through these holes. Then you push the central plastic dowel of the fixing in and this expands the back of the fixing locking them in place.
Problem you have is the wally that put your extended eyebrows on has put self tappers through the outside of your wing. Looks like it in the picture, anyway?

Also the plastic may be brittle in minus temperatures.
I'd get a set of original ones off the bay, in fact i have a set of good ones here in nostalgic light green, been trimmed for your rock sliders.
£50 plus postage...

That’s correct some one has drilled them and put self tappers in! Looks like only a hole or two on the back though, I could put a stainless bolt in with a dome head to fill the hole if they end up been on display?

The eyebrows overlap the metal wing by 7 or 8 mm IIRC. Might cover the self tapping holes. Fingers crossed.

Time will tell!! Just need some decent originals at a sensible price or try the eye brows! long as they fit ok should be ok, I don’t do any real heavy off-roading ect certainly don’t intend on things going against them, wouldn’t want to scratch my new paintwork lol!
