Hello!
I have freelander 1.8 2001 which engine blew up so I used my rover 25 1.4 k series engine in it. But it doesnt run well, and there is strong smell of petrol because it runs rich, because there is still 1.8 ecu. I can use my 25 ecu but immobiliser box is different (freelander has EWS 3D and Rover 25 has 5AS) so engine starts but stops after few second of running, like it is not getting fuel, I bypassed fuel pump but it didnt help :(

What could I do next? and ecus are newer models mems3, with two socket. Rover 25 ecu is NNN100752. I could make standalone immobiliser for ecu, I have keyfob, reader ring, 5as box and wires but there is so many wires coming from 5as and many of them splits.

There must be way to bypass immobiliser in rover 25 ecu. Or i could make stand alone immobiliser for ecu, but dont know how. Or maybe I could use rover 25 ecus fuel maps in freelander 1 ecu. Would IID tool help, Or something else?
What would you suggest?

Already checked ebay but couldn't find service that would remove immobiliser from rover ecu. And I may not see everything what is listed in UK ebay because i dont live in uk.

Land rover is not used in road so no need for immobiliser, MOT, insurance or any of that kind or nonsense.

I'm not sure what your solution is, but the engine ECU and immobiliser are coded as a pair. The ECU is cutting your engine because the coding pair is not made - it may be cutting the pump, but bypassing that won't help cos it will cut the injectors as well.

If you don't run the Freelander ECUs, I'm pretty sure you will have issues with the ABS which may cause you problems getting the equivalent of the MOT in Finland.

Is there way to bypass injector cut?

Why wouldn't abs work with rover 25 ecu? Abs is not needed

And as I said no need fot MOT nonsense. This landy is not used in public roads. It is in farm use and in slight off road use.

Woops, missed the MOT bit.

The pump is easy its either on or off - same with the injectors I suppose, but more difficult to switch 10,000 times a second. You're options are to used coded ECU/immobilier pair, use an ECU from a country that does not use immobilisation (such as Japan) or to blow a new Eprom for the ECU with the necessary bits changed to turn off immobilisation (that's what it would be like on the L Series ECU, the Mems might be programmable). You might be able to get help from an engine tuner on that.

Your Freelander will have a Teves Mk20 ABS ECU with ABS, TC and HDC capabilities. It takes some input from the engine's ECU (forget which, maybe engine speed, throttle position). The Rover ECU may not have needed to send this information to an ABS only ABS ECU as I believe ABS only uses wheel sensors. It may share this info over the network in a suitable format, maybe not.

The 1.8 ECU is calibrated for the 1.8 engine, so will have injector timing and ignition timing to suit.

Are you using the 1.4 injectors? Or the 1.8 injectors?

The immobilisers are different and not comfortable with the wrong ECU I don't believe.

I doubt you'd be able to alter the wiring, as the two designs of immobilisers are different.

You might if you send the ECU to a company with the ability to modify the ECU function.

No. The IID only works with later CAN bus LRs, not the older K Line bus of the FL1.

Is there way to bypass injector cut?
No. The ECU triggers the injectors by grounding them when they need to inject. However when immobilized, it simply doesn't ground them, so no injection takes place. The ECU also kills the ignition system in the same way, so the engine simply will not run.

The ABS system on the freelander is all part of the communication network. Without the communication between modules, things like HDC, ABS, and TC simply won't work. Although this probably isn't an issue if it's not used off road.

Got it working with rover 25 ecu. Works fine only gives fault code about fuel level sensor... Why ecu cares about it... and fuel level works...

Or I may have burned something, I accidentally connected wrong wire when I bypassed fuel pump relay.

added 5as to it. So ews is also on and works as is should except wire between ecm is cutted. There is 5as module with fob and reader ring in engine bay ecu box and it is connected to ecm.
