Hi Guys,

I’m complete newbie here I I was hoping to ask you for an advice.
Recently (4 days ago) I’ve purchased my first Land Rover – 2013 Range Rover 3.0 TDv6. It’s on a standard tires and 21” rims, so it is not fully an ultimate off-road car I know, but I was wondering if you can advise me a place to go with my family and enjoy full capability of that car.
I’m not talking about any deep river crossings, not going through deep mud (not on these tires) but I just wish to find an easy trial, road, place, where I’ll be able to enjoy the ride and show my family how much fun off-road can be.
I’m from Derby and I would appreciate if you can advise on locations within Derbyshire / Peak District area.
Thanks!

Green laning is not off-roading. It is driving unsurfaced rights of way with vehicular rights. Your best bet is to join the green lane Association or a local club who can take you on a green lane trip. It is advisable to not go alone in case you encounter problems.

Off-reading is driving off road on private land. This can be done at a pay and play site or again through a local club who will have a venue booked or pay for a site.

There is a code of conduct for green laning which can be found on here or on the GLASS website.

Don’t forget some minor preparation for green laning too. Decent recovery points, AT tyres at the most and some form of communication.

So without AT tyres there is no point of me even trying to go anywhere, is that right?

There are plenty of lanes which are very easy, the only concern I’d have is that it would be really easy to damage a 21” wheel and tyre on a protruding rock. Would assume they are very low profile? I only really go out on tag along tours, the company I use are called trails and tracks 4x4 adventures, they do a variety of easy through to challenging trips so it may be worth having a chat with someone like that. If you’re with a tour you’ll get guidance while you’re out with them which for a newbie is very handy. Have been out with them numerous times over the last few years.

Thanks. I'll seriously consider that, but as you said there is a risk that I'll damage the rims. Therefore this car may not be fully ready for green laning...

you can do lanes with your set up. There are/was great lanes round your way. Shortage of fords though which I didn't like. Maybe consider getting a smaller set of wheels with better tyres but roads will work. I'd be most concerned about scratches in the paint though.

Thanks guys.
I know that this car is far from being an ultimate off-rad, or green lane car. And yes, I wouldn't like to scratch it :) But I if it works well, I may consider buying alternative fun car, or upgrading this one.

Speak to those that run the tag along tours, sure they’ll be able to help you with something!
