Drilling noise, could this be the suspension pump?

Hello all

I have a 53 plate Disco and it's been making a 'drilling' noise from the by the nearside sill, this has gotten progressively worse over the last few months, the noise occurs when I've driven and then park up and switch the ignition off and then it starts drrrrrrrrr drrrrrrrrrr :) and then it stops when I open the door !! and then starts again when the door is closed. I have just taken it to the garage for the second time (first time it didn't make the noise as I had the door open) and the mechanic says he is 98 % sure that the suspension pump is on it's way out so I have come home to await the dreaded call to tell me how much it's going to cost  does this diagnosis sound right to all you Landy experts ??

Very common and nothing to worry about. No one can pin point why it happens specifically, but the train of thought is it is something to do with the system trying to level itself out. I bet it does no more than 3/4 bursts !!.

Is your rear susppention going down? if it is the pump will be running constantly trying to keep it up and it will fail. Safety feature will not allow it to work if any door is open. If its only the occasional burst, then as above, and tell the garage guy he knows **** all.

Mine does it periodically.
Think its just having a fart, never worried me in the slightest.

I would be more inclined to have a look at the condition of the sensors, a lot of problems can be caused with the rubber splitting on these.
Really easy to change and not that expensive.

Time for a new garage me thinks! (take it, its not a Land Rover specialist who has it?)

Mines been doing that for years, first time I heard it I was paranoid that the pump was on its last legs but apparently its just the valve block releasing pressure. (wont happen when any of the doors are open). If it stops doing it now I'll worry!
