It is possible that the starter motor on mine is dying. Neil has suggested I find one from the local breakers.

I need to know if it has to be one from a Defender 200tdi or will one from other engines / Discos be the same.

Thanks :D

Looking at my parts list 200TDI from 11L24824A use ERR5009 starter which is also used on 300TDI - don't know if that helps but may give more options

I bought one from Paddocks, I think they cost about £80 now. I have had it for two years and touch wood no problems.
The reason I had to change the starter was due to the old one pulling four times more power from the battery to start up due to wear which you couldn't see unless you used a volt meter to test it. Don't know how much you would pay for one from a breakers yard, but I would ask myself would it be worth it.

Theres a breakers down keighley, not too far away sue...
got my used one for £30

£80 + VAT form paddocks for an unknown brand, 145+Vat for the OEM so £100 min

Hi mate, thinking about buying this one myself as the current starter motor on my 200 Tdi is occasionally playing up - I take it it's the non-branded one you got?

Still going strong?

I just got a new one from CCW Tools. Really made a difference. It's a WOSP one. Highly recommended although a bit more expensive at £130.

Google ccw-tools.co.uk

Yep, it's still working well. Used daily and it is the unbranded type. Can't say its really been tested as my 200 tdi fires upon the first turn, well not even a turn.

Aye, my 200 Tdi's the same, the only real problem is the solenoid seems a bit sticky sometimes... since it's a bit of a pain in the ass job I'd rather just rip the whole thing out and put a new one in instead of fannying about trying to clean it.
