Hi all,
I have a starting prob which i hope someone can advise on.When i start the car (hot or cold) it revs way too high and the rev counter is dead. If i switch it off straight away and restart the rev counter is back and it ticks over normally, only now the gearbox diplay on the message centre -ie P N R etc- has disappeared and if driven like this the car seems to pull away in 2nd and will not change into top ????.However, if i switch off again and start for the 3rd time everything is normal. i have no idea what is going on .
Cheers in advance guys

I would start by making sure that the battery is the correct one and is working correctly.many odd issues are caused by failing under performimg batteries.

Check the under bonnet fuse box for signs and smells of burning. Stick a voltmeter on the battery and see that you have 12.5 volts or more engine off and that it rises to 14.2 volts or more with the engine at 2000 rpm. Low battery volts, a dodgy alternator or the fuse box can cause these sorts of problem as can bad battery connections corroded earths etc.
