Hi,
I've just taken my 2000 TD5 disco off road for the first time since owning it for 3 months.
When i came to a particulary muddy bit, a got a vibrating griding noise, I then noticed the TC light was on.
As soon as we were out of the mud the noise stopped and the TC light went out.
Is this normal?
How on earth do you go on in the desert or real off roading if it makes that noise all the time the TC is on?

Also does the Disco 2 ever lock it's diff's?
I was wondering why there isn't a diff lock on the transfer shift like on my old 300tdi?

Cheers
Carl

I think the diff lock is still in the box, just blanked of.
And you get T.C instead, personaly i think its crap, fairly sure you can have TC programed out and diff lever reinstated

That normal, but if the TC is on for any length of time you are in extreme conditions, and probabaly struggling en if you had a diff lock.
Some TD5's have a diff lock and just need the lever connecting, some don't.

Yes mate i get the same thing, The TC light comes on when it's working and stays on for two seconds after it's stopped, according to the manual. As for the noise, i think they all get it mine does it too !

Yh my v redge td5 does the same thing, i thought something was broken, such an annoying/unnerving noise i want to get it muted somehow... anybody know if thats possible?

It is completely normal though, it just means the computer is diverting power from a slipping wheel

U cant get rid of that noise unless u disconnect the TC, the noise is made by the ABS modulator which working then.... i wouldnt say that the computer is diverting power from the slipping wheel... the system applies brake on it as to reingage the diff.

Have a look at the Discovery2. Web site, I didn't know what TC or Diff lock was until I had a read through his web site. Brilliant site if you've got a Disco 2.

This is the diff lock spigott that sticks out of pre 2003 D2,s. ( this means that the diff lock " gubbins " are in the transfer case ).

Land rover belived the traction controll was good enough and just left out the lever to activate it.

From 2003 on, Land Rover completely removed the diff lock " gubbins " from the transfer case.
( you can just see its blank where the spigot should come out )

This is what the factory lever looks like.

I had to fit a complete new transfer box to get diff lock on my Discovery.
