Has anyone successfully (and safely) found a mechanism / product / technique for storing the spare wheel on the outside of the vehicle?
Am looking to convert to LPG, using the spare wheel well for tanks and do not want to store the spare in the boot space.

Thought about using the self seal liquid punctures fluids but they would not be effective if a tyre shredded, or the puncture hole was over a certain size.
Thought about under-body lpg tanks but they are ver expensive and I already have bought 2 x 72 litre tanks for the wheel well.

Which vehicle? I assume a P38?

I have seen some photos of cars with an external swingaway mount but I don't know where they came from. They look a bit odd too.

How did you manage to fit 2 x 72 litre tanks in the wheel well? I've only got a single 90 litre in mine and that pretty much completely fills the space...

I was thinking of adopting the RRC method and just mounting the spare vertically in the boot, but never got any further than just thinking about it. It's amazing just how much space it takes up just sitting on the floor.

If you try and mount the spare wheel on the outside of a P38, then it should be taken it off you as punishment for ruining a good car!

The solution is easy anyway, just carry the spare wheel in the boot on the day you know you're going to have a puncture, for all the other days you'll have the boot free.

Mystic Megs not your aunty by any chance is she.

used to carry my spare in the boot, made a pretty good boot tidy for keeping things in (tools etc.) and stopping them rolling around.
