There are 2 pipes located right under the EGR valve. Due to heat one could have easily split or dislodge without being noticed, since they are well hidden.

Had this one before....kind of. Started with engine MIL light coming on and off randomly before progressing to wild swings of the water temperature gauge. Turned out to be a weak battery in my case. Having said that, my vehicle is a TD4.

Sounds like you need new valve stem oil seals and/or new valve guides (in most cases just the seals). Usually blue smoke emission will be a little worse if you have the engine warmed-up and you rev it after allowing a 10 minute idle. Nothing fatal and the engine will run on for many more miles...

If the plastic pipe breaks, chances it's gone brittle with heat and age. Best to replace the entire length.

I just replaced with a good quality normal rubber hose. No issues at all.

The crescent shaped rubber end seals at the front and rear of the valley gasket are leaking. Can anyone tell me if they can be changed without the hassle of having to remove the lower inlet manidold.

Have you tried removing the EAS relay overnight and see if it sinks down onto the bump stops? At least that would eliminate either one of electrical or mechanical failure.

Even though I live in a tropical climate, I use a 50:50 mix of either BMW or Mercedes Benz's coolant. And I have never had a corrosion problem since the vehicle was new, and it's a 1996 model.

Looks like you have a duff fusebox.
