Just found somebody who says they have a crankshaft that is good for £60, hope it is OK when I get it checked, so just looking for a conrod now.

Had a few problems with the motor and sent the crankshaft for regrinding, among other things, and they say it is cracked so am looking for a second-hand replacement and wondered if anyone could suggest places to try as I have only managed to come up with new or re-manufactured ones so far, also...

Just had an opinion off someone more familiar with diesel motors and he says it's the diesel injectors that need servicing.

The noise comes and goes a bit but it does not sound too bad just revving it when it is stationary and it doesn't make any difference if the transfer box is in N and any gear engaged, it does rattle a bit then but this is the first diesel I have owned and am not sure if it is much more than you...

Thanks for the suggestion, it possibly rules out the gearbox as it sounds OK in all gears with transfer box in neutral. Took it up the road and rattle started again after about half a mile but nothing specific seems to effect it, rattly motors I have heard before usually get worse under load...

Coming home yesterday landy started to rattle like a bag of hammers (200tdi), seemed to me like a bearing in the motor was about to go but as I only had about 5 miles to do I thought I would keep going and I noticed that the rattle did not seem to have any relationship to the load on the motor...

Spent quite some time on the phone last week with various people at the DVLA trying to find out what they would accept as documentation for the motor swap and who would be qualified to supply an opinion on it, all I ended up with was that they would get back to me with details. Got my v5 in...

'Do nothing' sounds good to me at the moment, when I first informed them them of the change, about 6 weeks ago, I was also applying for a tax disc and they sent that from my local DVLA straight away.

I did try a phone call and was told they would send me details of all my options - got exactly the same form letter again, tried writing to them twice, first reply was, guess what - same form letter, not had any reply to second letter.

I have been rebuilding a 1985 Defender for quite a while and have replaced the 2.25 petrol motor with a 200tdi motor, when I tried to register this change with the DVLA they sent me a form letter back saying they wanted a receipt from the garage that did the motor swap or an inspection report...

I have some Blackfriars paint remover, I don't know if it is the same as Nitromors but it seems to melt the plastic. I would have preferred not to have painted them again as I find they don't look good for very long, particularly once they have had a couple of knocks.

I would like to get a set of painted Defender 'eyebrows' back to black plastic and wondered if anyone had any ideas that would not damage the plastic, I have tried cellulose thinners and acetone but they had no effect on the paint.

I need a new cover for a Defender seat back but am having trouble identifying the fabric pattern, only thing I do know is, it is not 'techno'. Internet searches have not turned up any pages that show the cloth I am looking for, it is sort-of grey-green with lots of black bits in, I have tried...
