Mystery oil leak! - 2.25 Diesel

Good suggestions all, I'll take the manifold off and have a peek. Will let you know how it looks...

Mystery oil leak! - 2.25 Diesel

Hi folks Perhaps there's a little help to be had out there. I'm slowly fixing all the oil leaks on my recently rebuilt SIII, with some success. However, there's one which I'm having a ton of difficulty diagnosing. Any previous experience of this one would be helpful... The leak is...

Alloy door top studs - where to buy?

Wow, this must be a real puzzler if nobody here has any idea!

    2.25 diesel loosing power

Could be a whole bunch of things, most of them simple to fix. I take it you've checked the brakes aren't binding, the handbrake is OK, the tyre pressures are good? These engines are pretty poor at going up hills so it doesn't take much to make them even worse. As for checking the engine...

Alloy door top studs - where to buy?

Here they are. I'll check back in a few hours to see if the image is still there, sometimes these image hosting things drop the image if there's too much traffic to it. [EDIT] Uploaded to Photobucket instead, OneDrive doesn't like linking to its photos.

Alloy door top studs - where to buy?

Hi all Here we go, one of the last irksome jobs before my Series 3 rebuild goes back on the road. Amazing how all the awkward stuff gets left until last isn't it? I know door tops aren't necessary for the MOT but it's wintertime so balls to that. The door tops are unknown ones, made from...

Wiring Harness serie 3 1972. NEWONE???

You can still get the genuine terminals if you want to patch in the bits of your loom that still work. They're called Lucas 4.7mm "brass bullet" connectors and were pretty standard on all British cars up until about 1980.

Need to advance the timing but there's no adjustment left!

Eureka, after careful re-checking of the camshaft timing it appears the chain and sprockets had worn a touch and caused the problem. With the camshaft set at Exhaust Peak (checked and double-checked) the "EP" mark on the flywheel was adrift by a single tooth on the starter ring gear. With...

Need to advance the timing but there's no adjustment left!

Think I'm feeling about ready to give it a crack tomorrow. If the cam timing turns out to be OK I'll get the injector pump off and try and get the skew gear out to inspect it all for wear. Which bit does your gut say is most likely to be the problem?

Need to advance the timing but there's no adjustment left!

I'll have another look at the cam timing in that case. The timing cover is still off so it makes sense to be sure. I suspect the engine may have had a hard life; the donor vehicle was a Series 3 but had been transplanted onto a galvanised chassis and the workmanship was just bloody shocking...

Need to advance the timing but there's no adjustment left!

I never did rebuild the engine on this one. It was running when I loaded it onto the trailer in the summer so I let sleeping dogs lie. I've rebuilt a three-bearing diesel in the past and it's so bloody infuriating I thought I'd give it a miss this time! I'm fairly certain the crank/cam...

    Bodywork re-assembly order

I've just put the body back on mine and that sounds about right too. For the rear tub it's best to completely assemble it before putting it in, i.e. rivet the floor crossmembers and floor sheet in first. It's a right pain if you try and do it after the tub is bolted down. Sure, it means you...

Need to advance injection - but there's no adjustment left!

Aaaand.. I've posted this in the wrong thread. Just moved it to the Engines one.

Need to advance the timing but there's no adjustment left!

Hello all Wow, first post! And to think I've got so close to the end of my Series 3 rebuild without resorting to forums, it's either a triumph or a shame, I've not decided yet. Anyhow, the mongrel is nearly complete. A galvanised chassis with the best bits salvaged from the scraps of two...
