    Defender rebuild

Hi, currently stripping down my 1991 defender to fit a new chassis and bulkhead. Lots of grinder action at present but getting towards lifting the engine out soon. My plan is to separate the gearbox and lift out engine and gearbox seperately(I intend to put a new clutch in whilst it is...

    Can they be made bigger?

You can remove the buklhead behind the seats and make alterations to allow thye seat to be mounted further back- the bulkhead is replaced by a steel strengthening tube which runs across the floor. However this will push you behind the door pillar which will severely restrict your side view...

    Labour costs

Well, I was a bit suprised at the amount of posts on this thread that I started, it obviously is a subject close to peoples hearts and about which they hold strong views. I have to say though that I am pretty disgusted at the level to which it seems to have degenerated, which includes verbal...

    Labour costs

To sing the praises of the independents and illustrate my idea of customer service. I ordered a rear/brake lamp form a well known independent in North Yorkshire based just outside Thirsk. Don't know if I can mention names on here but many will know who I mean. The part costs about £6. There was...

    "Fake" Snorkel?

If you are going to get the snorkel working, do the job right and move it over to the other side where it should be. By the sound of it, it will be no more work than all the f^%%ing around you will have to do involving ducting etc. It can't be that difficult a job.

    Labour costs

How the heck do they justify that? I'm glad I can't afford a new vehicle with a warranty which would tie me to a main dealer. Any idea how this compares with main dealers for other makes? I wonder what a Rolls /Bentley dealer charge?

How to connect brake pipe to pipe ends

I have just done a similar job on my 110 - first time ever - took the old brake pipes to a garage and they made up new copper ones for next to nothing, I think you need a tool to flare the ends, after the connectors have been put on.

Traffic incident , Any police here

I am a police sergeant. You have complied with your obligations under Section 170 of the Road Traffic Act. You did this by stopping and providing your name and address and insurance details to the other party/ police. You do not need to report to the police (the 24 hours is an absolute...

    Labour costs

I heard last week that a Landrover main dealer in my area is charging £120 per hour for labour - £120 per hour!!!! Can anyone beat this for extortion? £35 seems to be the going rate for independents, including Maddisons 4 x 4 - who will be as good as anyone.

    Help please re brake lamps.

Success at last. Having chased shorts and blown fuses around the vehicle for two days found a short in the tow socket which seems to be the cause of the problem. Nice shiny MOT. Thanks for the suggestions which helped a lot.

    Help please re brake lamps.

You do have to just laugh at things like this don't you? At least it keeps me away from the crap on telly.

    Help please re brake lamps.

B*&^%y landies! Found that there was indeed a problem with a bad earth by rigging up a link from the existing earth to a good earth - got the rear lamps / brakes working fine. Then created a permanent attachment to the new good earth and everything fine. Went out two hours later to go for...

    Hello

I use a methodical, analytical, problem solving approach to any work I do on the landie. So yes I did hit it with a hammer, that didn't work so I used a bigger one. As that didn't work either it must need something else.
