Only thing Ive seen is the brake pump has about 1/4 inch free movement before it starts to push on shaft? Don't know if that's how they are or whether that's the noise banging on...

Hi, new too this site, I have a 96 300 TDI ES Auto, in the last couple of weeks it has started a load, metallic banging / knocking noise on start up, last for 10 - 20 seconds, then gone, no more noises, drives fine pulls extremely well, no smoke no oil loss or over heating, stop start many times...
