Just had the same problem with mine(the missis`s)04 TD4, think the transfer box(IRD) is standard across the range, the most common failure is the VCU seizing up and stripping the teeth of the pinion, and or the rear diff. The choices i had were, 1. fit a recon IRD, ( only 3 month warranty...

The fixed towbar works fine on the freelander and doesnt effect the sensors at all, there is a button to disable the sensors when reversing with the trailer attached. Hope this helps.

Hi, you dont say where abouts you are! Round here I can get 225/55/17(the big expensive jobbys) on a budget tyre for about £85 each, Have just put goodyears on the front at £150 each, I assume a smaller tyre would be a bit cheaper. Regards

When engine turned off it sounds like someone blowing across a milk bottle, and yes there is smoke even when switched off. I park on the road, where a lot of pedestrian traffic passing to the local school, and get a lot of people knocking on the door saying your car is making funny noises/on...
