It’s back!!! Finally, rebuilt engine, Brandt new crank, oil pump, etc etc Engine runs sooooooooooo nicely now and sounds super quiet. Really pleased to have the car back. Run it in now so need to drop the oil and we are done. Happy Td5 boy :)

Ok. Nipped into the garage yesterday hoping to see the engine being built back up but they have been delayed with other jobs :( He did say they had looked again at it though and can confirm the oil pump bolt WAS loose. He said when they removed the chain or something the bolt rattled around...

Been in the Orkney Islands until yesterday. Now working in the big smoke so no idea if it's fixed. Should find out Friday what the score is. Hopefully the original engine was save able.

When you say it's a fiddle Neilly in what way? I note the chain based products above but I'm not sure the chain will go round the back of the filter properly as there is a protruding nut on the engine which is very close to the filter itself? Would a rubber strap based product work better for...

I see there enough room to get a strap wrench in? I've just googled them and many look to be quite bulky at the head which makes me wonder if one would fit. The reviews on the ones with very small heads aren't good suggesting they often snap. Which one have you got that both fits but doesn't...

Thanks for confirming on the air filter. Perhaps the airbox lid wasn't fitted 100% last time allowing more moisture in? Regards the oil filter that's a good tip. Sadly though by the time I stuck a screwdriver through the damned thing to get it to turn it was gushing!!!!
