Think my oil pump bolt may have gone...

Ok. Nipped into the garage yesterday hoping to see the engine being built back up but they have been delayed with other jobs :( He did say they had looked again at it though and can confirm the oil pump bolt WAS loose. He said when they removed the chain or something the bolt rattled around...

Think my oil pump bolt may have gone...

Been in the Orkney Islands until yesterday. Now working in the big smoke so no idea if it's fixed. Should find out Friday what the score is. Hopefully the original engine was save able.

Think my oil pump bolt may have gone...

Thanks. The guys are certainly experienced, the owner was some sort of head mechanic for LR - they gave him an anniversary P38 Range Rover as a gift/mark of service. He's still got it. I wondered about a replacement engine but surely (beyond the warranty period (which I bet they wriggle like...

Think my oil pump bolt may have gone...

The last time they did something on it I think, think, they charged £45-50 plus VAT an hour. Not sure whats needed just yet so as you rightly say it's a bit of a guessing game. I suspect they'll let me know more next week as they were getting someone to measure the guideways or whatever they...

Think my oil pump bolt may have gone...

No quote no. Told him to do what it needs to get it right. I want to make sure there is some preventative maintenance there so any bits that can be sensibly replaced along the way (new oil pump etc) to get it done. Should make for an interesting 'guess the number' game when I pick it up...

Think my oil pump bolt may have gone...

Ok, sit rep. Garage was open today so have taken the Landy in and bumped it to the top of the list. First thoughts were engine oil related so oil drained, new oil in and filters. Sadly bits of metal found at the bottom of the sump. Garage owner told me lots and certainly way beyond my...

Think my oil pump bolt may have gone...

Thanks JM - makes my filter plier problems pale into insignificance hey? I turned it off very quickly on the motorway (well it stopped running itself actually). It's run for probably 30 seconds since but just stalls. Doesn't sound bad when it was running but I don't suppose you can tell what...

Think my oil pump bolt may have gone...

doing 75 on the M6 Toll yesterday, kids, Mrs and mother in the car all going well and then the oil light flickers. Seconds later the engine starts to slow and stalls dumping us at the side of the road. Engine wouldn't idle, tried to start but nothing. After an hour waiting for the AA I tried...

Whats happened to this air filter?

Sadly yes saltlick. The filter is in a daft please with naff all room around it. I think the pliers above might work so I'll get some of those and see next time. Wireman - Will be checking the dump valve that you mentioned out this morning.....

Whats happened to this air filter?

Are these the Daddy JM? These are designed to work in the tiny spaces TD5 offers are they?

Whats happened to this air filter?

When you say it's a fiddle Neilly in what way? I note the chain based products above but I'm not sure the chain will go round the back of the filter properly as there is a protruding nut on the engine which is very close to the filter itself? Would a rubber strap based product work better for...

Whats happened to this air filter?

I see there enough room to get a strap wrench in? I've just googled them and many look to be quite bulky at the head which makes me wonder if one would fit. The reviews on the ones with very small heads aren't good suggesting they often snap. Which one have you got that both fits but doesn't...

Whats happened to this air filter?

Thanks for confirming on the air filter. Perhaps the airbox lid wasn't fitted 100% last time allowing more moisture in? Regards the oil filter that's a good tip. Sadly though by the time I stuck a screwdriver through the damned thing to get it to turn it was gushing!!!!

    Blocking EGR without removing it

So I can get a bolt behind it can I? I didn't think the bolt went all the way through the flange....I'll take a look at it tomorrow hopefully. In the meanwhile I've put a 2 Hong Kong Dollar piece and exhaust putty'd it in place. Seems like it might work? I agree with the earlier message about...

Whats happened to this air filter?

serviced the Landy yesterday and this is what the air filter looked like. Any idea why the wavey bands? Ps what a complete PITA the lower oil filter is.....not looking forward to doing that again in a spring.....:(

    Blocking EGR without removing it

I don't have the skills or tools to start drilling out bolts and retapping and my car doesn't have a cooler. I have basic tools/kit and the pipes you see in the pics. I need to cap off the EGR pipeworK at the valve end. Sorry to sound ungrateful but solutions involving elements from another...

    Blocking EGR without removing it

Thanks for that roy. Yes mine doesn't have the cooler on it. Mine has two bolts that attach it to the front of the engine so I guess it's pretty well supported? I could always cable tie it to the blanking pipe? Either way I'll definitely look at that...

    Blocking EGR without removing it

Ok maybe that's where I will end up. To be honest having seen the restriction in the valve Iosinf that from the intake can't be a bad thing though? If I left the vacuum pipe off (all be it sealed with say a self tapped) the valve would just stay closed yeah?
