Could well be, the contacts inside the solenoid get worn and dirty. Not a difficult job to take it (the starter motor) off and clean them up, replacement kits are cheap. I did this on my Disco TD5. that job is a real sod because the top nut is renowned for being difficult to get to and undo. I...
