    2.25 Petrol driving me mental

You say you've swapped the leads around etc, but are you deffo getting a constant spark at no 3? Mine was intermittently missing on no3 and I eventually tracked it down to a distributor cap minus the central button. How it worked at all, i'll never know! If you have oil behind the valve head...

    Zenith carb repair kit?

Just an update! I have now re-built the Zenith carb replacing all jets, gaskets, mixture screw, diaphragm and throttle butterfly and shaft.:) It now runs like a dream and the tickover problem has gone!:D The rebuild took about four hours and cost just over £16.........I'm well chuffed...

whats reasonable for a series III?

Totally agree with redhand! It took me six months of looking and putting in stupid bids on eBay before I came up trumps! Use a sniper and bid the max you're prepared to pay. It's a bit of a lottery but at the money I paid for a series 3 with 8 months MOT I feel I got a bargain! If the...

    Zenith carb repair kit?

I have just been outbid again on eBay for a new replacement Weber carb for my 2 1/4 series 3! I can get a repair kit for the original Zenith which works fine apart from the dodgy tickover. Included in the kit is a new throttle spindle and flap which appears to be the cause of my...

What do you think of this roll bar

You could get someone to weld it up properly, but........................ the diameter of the pipe, the type of steel, the corrosion on the steel and the positioning of the mounts would all combine to make it pretty ineffectual!

    Poor tickover?

Thanks Sean I've bean doing a bit reading up and realise now the stretched timing chain scenario is quite a common fault. As you say, I might drag out an old compression tester I have lying around somewhere and give it a go! Cheers

    Poor tickover?

Hi, and thanks for the reply! Just out of interest I did change the rotor arm when I changed the dizzy cap. I have been mucking about with the ignition timing solely by loosening the distributor bolt and advancing or retarding it until it sounded OK. As you say though until I fit the new points...

    Poor tickover?

I've been messing about with my Landies 2.25 engine trying to get it to run a bit better. I've replace a knackered distributor cap and fitted NGK plugs. I've been ajusting the tickover screw and mixture control screw on the Zenith carb so that it's running on a fast tickover, to try and stop it...

    Letter of Absolution........

Nooooo.........for cripes sake don't be put off! As I said, I love mine to bits, it's just a bit different from driving a modern car, more agricultural as befits it's heritage:) I was weaned on old fords, Anglia's, Escorts, Cortina Mk1's etc and to me the Landie drives similarily, and...

    Letter of Absolution........

I was worried about lending my Series 3 landrover to my Son in Law who's car has problems, because he proposed strapping my Grand children into it with him! I thought you may be interested in my:- Letter of Absolution · The Land rover is a pile of ****e, but I love it! ·...

    Distributor cap problem?

I know this sounds daft, but there aint no sign of a carbon brush! I've just been looking at the cost of a new distributor cap and it's pennies. I fancy I'll buy one for peace of mind tomorrow. Thanks for the reply slob!:)

    Distributor cap problem?

Can anyone please furnish me with information on the distributor cap on a 2.25 Landy engine? Most of the caps I have dealt with in the past have some form of centre contact with the rotor arm. Mine hasn't, just a hole with what appears to be a spring loaded 'something or other' inside? Am I...
