    I suspect that is why the hole is there - to align shaft. Problem was I had been abroad for two months in between and had forgotten how it looked on removal - needless to say the one photo I did not take 🥴

    Thanks for that. Not sure where bearings came from. Fitted by Dave Rushton (Engines). They waited a long time to source them.

    It’s a standard two and a quarter petrol. I was wrong the hole is not threaded. Therefore I am assuming that end of the camshaft just gets the cover plate. In fact the hole is not threaded. I am assuming the rear camshaft cover seals that end and the front thrust bearing holds it in position.
