Update, So i have struggeled on and replaces the Exhaust gaskets, checked the manifold, couldnt find anything wrong, but sourced a s/h one from good engine, rebuilt it all last night, and still ticks / pinks on No6 cylinder, This is only on acceleration from 2000 - 3000 rpm Any ideas...

Hi all, I posted about possible pinking a while back, 4.6 HSE Petrol To it to a range rover specialist they checked and suggested exhaust manifold gasket, Its like a metal tick / pink only when under acceleration, cruising i dont seem to here it,, Noise goes when i remove No 6 plug lead...

So, does this knock sensor cure the symptom or the problem ?? does this work all the time to stop pinking, or only when there is a problem ???

you maybe right but with this disconnected, the volume is very quiet and wont turn up louder, like you wouldnt hear it if you were driving,, thats what makes me think its the amp that controls the radio and said speakers ???

Hi, Range rover p38 4.6 HSE 2000 on acceleration there is a metalic ticking noise !!! I belive this is what they call pinking ??? I have found that with No 6 lead disconnected the noise goes away, any ideas if im right, and what pinking is, and what might be wrong, How do i cure this...

Hi, Thanks for that, yes thats what we thought but there is no menu to change this setting, its the Alpine AMR 6285 head unit, we found it works ok with the top middle plug removed from the radio, it has single pink wire in it, then it works ok, but sound is very quiet as we belive this...

Sounds similar symtomes to what i had, I would check out the TPS, (Throttle position Sensor), this cured our problem,

Hi Chris, Cheers was about to do that then checked out electrics with haynes manual and found Faulty TPS, Found one at Scrap yard and now runs like new,,,,, So sorted Cheers Scott
