    Taking Bets on CRANK/NO START

FREELANDER FIXED It turns out the ''mechanic'' didn't remove my old gaskets. he just slapped on that gasket paste on top reassembled. The gasket didn't seem to be fitted flush as I remember doing it the first time (i could see a small part of gasket peeking out above the bolt holes)...

Thank you for your response, GrumpyGel. However, the TPS is responsive to different stimuli suggesting it's downstream. @Nodge, You are correct:- If he is a mechanic, than I am a monkey. after my previous post I realized that I had to turn it on and have my foot on the gas a little to idle...

    Taking Bets on CRANK/NO START

The MAF sensor came in yesterday and I hooked it up today. It took a couple attempts to for it to fire up and idle. Throttle responsive. However a tap on the pedal threw the RPMs high and lingered before coming down. (at idle) Put it in drive and it died under load. Started it up again and put...

Ah the mm HG was not the readers fault, my brain reverting to the standards I used in my academic life. Thanks for pointing that out.

Thank you. We have different books apparently, lol. Reason tells me if I unplug something and it works better and if I plug it in and it dies, that it is faulty... But searching through the forums I saw that when people unplugged their MAF, they did not lose throttle response. This made me...

    Taking Bets on CRANK/NO START

I idled for 2 hours without a misfire. I MUST unplug MAF to idle. No throttle response. If I keep the MAF connected, I can keep the engine on by keeping my foot on the gas or by revving. There seems to be a slight delay when revving. During idle, I tried to out-smart the computer by plugging...

I have also noticed that the idle (without MAF) carries a constant 62 PSI from the FP. The popping in the inlets does not occur until I have been idling for a bit. (still maintains FP pressure of 62-65) I did go back to the tail pipe and there doesn't seem to be an even flow coming out... there...

    Taking Bets on CRANK/NO START

I had an exciting and adventurous day. I rented fuel pressure tester... 0 PSI... So I beat the pump with a rubber mallet. I heard a *boing* which im assuming was the spring in the pump. re-tested- 0 PSI... however I was able to unplug MAF and get my landy out of the mechanics yard and home in...

You're right, mate. Thanks for the reinforcement. I'll get back at it when I have access to my truck on Monday.

    Catalyst converter

Yes and No. Combustion of hydrocarbons, which both "petrol" and "ethanol" are, yield carbon dioxide (and carbon monoxide, and formaldehyde) and water. Carbon monoxide and formaldehyde will both kill you, but you can add carbon dioxide to your water for some fizzle. But carbon dioxide is also a...

    Taking Bets on CRANK/NO START

Back when it was running, landy farted a cloud of smoke, I figured it may have sucked down some carbon build up. I removed the throttle wire harness, this did not result in any positive results while cranking. When inspecting the FP harness I noticed the main WP wire was quite stiff... made...

    Catalyst converter

I think you're looking for a catalytic converter Catalyst converters are much more expensive because sharks smell blood in the water.

@Nodge68 I found a bone ( a very large bone) under the radiator and lots of leaves and debris in the "V" when I bought my Landy I think a blocked cat would explain my symptoms... Don't you? I suppose I'll pack the drill along with the multi-meter for Monday

    Freelander Faults poll

I thought 104,000 miles was low miles, especially for high end V6 truck. Turns out the ones in the scrap yard have even less. I'd list the problems but I am afraid I'll get hand cramps... Maybe I'll drop the engine and transmission and just pull it behind my Dodge as a portable tool box
