Be honest, have you actually done one?
I did all the work myself and replaced everything that needed replacing. Yes you could re fit a load of worn out chewed up rubbish to a new chassis but wouldn't that be a bit daft and more work in the long run?

It's £5k for one that's rusted to death.

I think the car and parts were £8-9000, and then there is the year it takes to put it all together.
It's not cheap to do a galv chassis properly.

I would like a d1 but what puts me off is body rot. Complicated bits like rear passenger door wheel arches look like a PITA to fix .

With a new grill and some big tyres it must be worth a million pounds to someone in London.

I've got a l322 and a disco td5. If you want to remove the rad cowling from the l322 the only way to do it nicely would be to remove a Aircon hose first, so you would have to re gas it even if you're not working in the Aircon.
I'm tempted to scrap it to be honest as it's such a pain in the ass...

D2 with a galv chassis obviously!

If you have Hawkeye you can turn the fan on with that.
