Transfer case oil was a bit emulsified---but nothing beyond the norm on the chip plug

Renewed transfer case and gearbox oil---no change....
BUT--took it up to speed and guess what....no noise/whine/clunk in 4th gear! That helps me isolate a ton! Looking at layshaft gear/bearing??

Makes sense---any ideas on where to start for bearing play? Hopefully keeping the gearbox in situ.....

I'm with you all the way---going to give a go this morning on retrieval---and if not--gonna live with it for a while. I fear taking off the head will only lead to more pain/repairs/cash outlay!!

Thought about that, but figured that the glow plug tip is probably stuck in there with a good bit of carbon. I'm going to try and pry it free with a long needle nose (if i can find it) and then go for the magnet if i can't retrieve it.
then again, i'm sure with 2/4 glow plugs installed i...

So noticed on my (new to me) '92 110 200TDI that the first two cylinders (closest to the fire wall had glow plugs that were not attached to the wiring loom. So I ordered 4 new glow plugs. I fit the first two okay, but the remaining two cylinders wouldn't accept the glow plugs! They were "too...

Got her up and running----yep----it was the starter. Got the new one in and runs like a top.
Now....what to do with the old starter? Rebuild and keep? Rebuild and sell? Trash?
