    Renewed transfer case and gearbox oil---no change.... BUT--took it up to speed and guess what....no noise/whine/clunk in 4th gear! That helps me isolate a ton! Looking at layshaft gear/bearing??

    Got her up and running----yep----it was the starter. Got the new one in and runs like a top. Now....what to do with the old starter? Rebuild and keep? Rebuild and sell? Trash?

    Put the lead from battery negative to the engine---CLICK!

    Spent the afternoon under the hood---got all the wires off the starter, cleaned them, steam cleaned the posts on the starter and rewired. The only earth lead was from the battery to the frame---didn't see an earth lead from the starter at all. Anyways, after all cleaning and rewiring....keyed...

    Good point---gonna wait until i get a recon in my hand. if i can salvage the old one, i'll return the recon. if not, i'll install the old one. the 125gbp included a 50gbp core charge, so i figure a new one with piece of mind for 75gbp is worth it, don't you?
