BBS probably will not divulge the relearn OBD commands either, as it would hurt sales of their Sync tool !! Might be worth asking someone like Marty ? The actual comms uses K-Line ISO-9141 protocols (most likely same commands for any GEMS...

Last time I did an FL1 prop & VCU, we used 4 axle stands. Much easier then to access everything & easy to turn the wheels or prop.

Looking at other GEMS applications, the mobilisation procedure is the same regardless of BECM or other security system. Here's how it works in a Morgan: (see attached pdf.) So to use the GEMS ECU in another vehicle without security, your...

You would need to find what data the Nanocom sends to GEMS for learn mode, plus the data format the BECM sends during starting. The GEMS will be some kind of LR specific command code via the OBD protocol. I suspect the BECM enable signal uses...

Yes powered up & then the normal BECM start action. Doesn't matter if the engine actually runs, just for GEMS to learn the code. I read somewhere that Morgan V8 GEMS was programmed with the same code so it didn't require a BCM of any sort. . ...

Never tried it, but in theory you could do it with a Nanocom (although Nanocom might not allow FFFF). 1. In BECM menus write FFFF into the Immobilisation code. 2. In GEMS Utility menu put GEMS into Learn Mode. 3. Turn ignition off-on to trigger...

pwood999 replied to the thread Serious Battery drain.
I have an old (6-7 years) battery 110AH, 750 EN in my garage I use as a temporary 12V supply for testing EAS Valve Bocks, Stereos, etc. It gets charged about once per month usually the day before I need it. Right now it's measuring 12.2V or...

Do the pressure check with the engine up to normal temp & switched off. Make sure you check all the hose joints & around any gasket that hold coolant. Also get underneath & shine a torch up at the core plugs (they rust & leak eventually).

Read this. If the widget you have is the LRNAFOUT, it programs the GEMS ECU with FFFF so it doesn't need the code from BECM.

BTW, if anyone wants the map pocket formers in post-#31 above, they are going free. (sorry to hijack Andy)
  • pwood999
You probably want the marks here, rather than on the damper !!

Step-1: Buy the DC Clamp meter recommended by Alibro above. Step-2: Don't try putting a multimeter in-line with the battery feed unless you know what you're doing. Use the clamp meter & note the value after the car is off & locked for at...

Surely should be same part both sides ? Just make sure you get the correct thread size & connector type.

err . . actually three causes. 1. Its either that the valve is actually stuck closed. 2. Or its a faulty height sensor & ECU confuses the reason 3. Or intermittent connection in the driver pack connector, i.e. if the driver pack cannot trigger...

Prop off is easy, even on axle stands, but do the one-wheel test first !!

@nevillen Microcat finds the VIN. Search driveshaft part number using that ?

The "approximately a year old" comment from the seller probably means someone cleaned the battery to make it look newer !! +1 do the simple overnight voltage check above with the battery disconnected. Also getting Halfords to check its...

@James Brake as others have said rebuild or replace with another 1.8 is the easiest approach. Then sort the IRD & Prop, etc. A donor car would help you a lot & potentially provide many bits you're gonna need or break off-road. Also this forum...

ok I stand corrected. I do wonder how it would behave if the disco sensors did provide pulses, especially if the front & rerar rate per revolution were different ? I guess the ABS/TCS would treat it as spinning or slipping wheels - a bit...

Essentially it’s getting the preload on the lifters correct. If it’s wrong it impact compression & engine won’t be at its best.

You could search the forum or google it. It’s been described many times by peeps changing cams, lifters or doing head skim.

And what is the difference ?

    pwood999 replied to the thread P38A Disco 2 hubs on a P38.
Wrong number of pulses would make the speedo wrong, plus front & rear wheel mismatch. ABS fault implies the sensor cannot see the reluctor. Definitely. Supplier might have swapped them for P38 version if they were unused, but probably not...

Check the connector underneath the valve block. The connector body may appear tight, but the socket contacts open up slightly over time due to heat & cold cycles in the engine bay. Intermittent connections will cause "valve stuck" faults when...

Just to add to this, if the engine is on 122000 do the basics before anything like ECU mods, i.e. Replace main & big end bearings, piston rings, etc. Clean up & relap the valves. Look at a mild tune cam (which should not require ECU mods)...
