I think with used cars it really depends on how the previous owner treated it. My TD4 FL1 is 13 years old this year and I have owned it for about half that time, and I would not describe it as an unreliable car. If they are serviced properly there is no reason that the TD4 should me more...

You might need to leave the jump leads connected for longer if it is that dead. I had to jump start my hippo a few days ago with a VW Scirocco and it took a while.

What is the part number for the torx screws holding in the door latches? One of the cheap and nasty ones went bye bye.
