Hi Biggeezer I'm no landrover expert but it could be the fuels shut off valve sticking as stated in this post. This would be the reason for the grey smoke looking like unburnt fuel, if the valve is semi stuck open it would act the way your engine has been with low revs and lack of power...

It's ok Caz8695 you should be proud to be a brummy :) even tho ya bloody miles away, your unlucky tho they stopped the toll road on ya doorstep so peeps like yella and grunt can visit ya. we don't want em in brum :) that why we put the toll road in to try divert em around our wonderfull city :)

Hi Rusty1 I'm no Landrover expert but as with most engines that suck in water into the air intake you get whats called an aqualock. In most cases this is not good news as you have every possible chance of bending a con rod or crank, i know of a chap that done it in an early renault clio...
