If it's that hard to remove its likely that it's not just weight on it, it maybe that the bulkhead is leaning forward or backwards, try slackening everything that holds it upright and removing unnecessary load, doors etc. Failing that, drill a hole in the centre, pop an ezi-out in and get...

I had it before where I pulled the top off the box to look at the selector mechanism and where I had out it in hear had jammed it on the rod so all looked good. Problem was staring me in the face tho, tightened the grub screw on the selector shaft and job done

I would say a transmission whine, you're just not hearing it over the engine when it revs! Try disconnecting props and checking for play/grinding in diff's and boxes

Just a quick thought, check the light stalk for continuity. I don't really understand why it did what it did but I had a similar problem with certain lights switching on and not others, turned out that when I went from side to dipped the switch wasn't making properly.

I've tested the ignition switch and seems ok, I'm sure all the earth's are on, my auto elec skills aren't the best but have been trying to trace the wires from the lights to the switch so see if I have plugged something in wrong somewhere, I keep getting lost in the main dashboard loom! thanks

Hi I have just completed a bulkhead change on my defender 200tdi. Also done a few other things, timing belt, heated windscreen, dam good service and clean and to my surprise when I turned the key everything works . . . except the lights, nothing except the sidelights, not indicators, hazards...

Had another look today, the rose fitting on the selector shaft had actually come lose, when I checked it last time I must have forced it around when trying to select a gear. Feel a bit stupid for not spotting it the first time :mad: Tightened the grub screw into place and I'm away. Thanks again
