Diff. lock or LSD for Series IIA

Has anyone here fitted a diff. lock or Limited Slip Diff. in the rear of their Series IIA? I'd be interested to know the most suitable option. Cheers.

    Operating in cold weather

A friend said he is not using his Series Land Rover due to the extreme low temperatures up North recently. Ok, it is a beautiful old Land Rover but is starting them in such cold temperatures really so bad for the engines, gearboxes etc? I thought they were built for harsh conditions. He had a...

Which tyres are best in the snow?

Real winter tires are made of a softer rubber and therefore wear down very quickly in warmer weather. But, real winter tires work well on ice too. In the Nordic countries it is a legal requirement to fit winter tires. With good winter tires, any normal 2 wheel drive car will manage fine as long...

Wheel and tire options when new?

Do the 235 tires fit the same steel rims that the 205/80R16's are on?

Wheel and tire options when new?

Thanks for the replies. Any ideas if 205/80R16 were standard?

Wheel and tire options when new?

When Land Rover sold Defender 90 300tdi's new in the Uk, what were the different wheel and tire options available? What tires are generally thought to be best suited to these, for say 50/50 on-road/ off-road use. Any thoughts would be great. Cheers.

    2.25 petrol

Are there any simple ways to make a standard 2.25 petrol engine a little more fuel efficient? For example, by changing the air filter etc. Or would any such changes sacrifice performance? Your thoughts would be appreciated.

    Cross ply tires

Exactly. But I want to keep 7.5x16 tires on it as I prefer the look. Not many options really, especially for tires that look the part and perform well. Any other ideas would be great. The Super All Grip radials look ok but they are not really a mud tire and I wonder how they perform off-road.

    General Super All Grip tires

Does anyone here use General's Super All Grip Radials on their Series Land Rover? 750x16. If so, any opinions or feedback would be great. I'm trying to find out how they are as I need a new set for my Land Rover and the Super All Grip cross-ply tires it currently has are not available new anymore.

    Cross ply tires

Thanks. They're a bit too expensive for me. I was thinking about a set of General sag cross-ply tires but have only found the radial version for sale online. Any opinions about these? They look ok, still suitable for a Series vehicle, though the tread pattern seems a lot less aggressive when...

    Cross ply tires

Are any 7.50x16 cross ply tires still available (new) in the UK and, if so, where do they sell them? Not had much luck searching so far.

Daily use of my '72 S3 - crazy?

Good stuff, thanks. Looks like I'm all set then.

Daily use of my '72 S3 - crazy?

What spares would you carry? I mean, what would be a typical fault that could be fixed quickly by the side of the road? My Series II has been very reliable but I haven't done more than 180 miles in it in one go and don't drive it every day. Always check the fluids before longish trips and weekly...

Daily use of my '72 S3 - crazy?

They actually sound like quite reliable things, if well maintained I suppose!

Daily use of my '72 S3 - crazy?

For those who have used their Series Land Rovers as their only cars... have you had many problems with reliability when you have had to be somewhere? I mean, jump in to go and find a problem has developed and have to take a taxi or bus due to time!
