not sure how to or if I can get the part off the car. My guess is its been on the car for a long time

Yeah, that's what I thought . the only real problem is I can't see the damage from under to car. If I remove the bonnet I might be able to see it from the top.
Should I be concerned about blocking up the hole to stop filling getting in?

I'm not really sure if the threads can be repaired if you look at the picture it as if only the first thread or 2 are damaged the rest seem to be in good condition. the damaged appears to be, the hollow bolt that goes into the oil filter, is cut through.
I've zoomed and cropped this image...

Hi
The picture below I think describes this perfectly
Some how the threads are damaged where the oil filter screws on. I spent nearly an hour trying to screw a new filter on, it seem to be impossible. At one point it seemed to be engaged but after less than a turn if came off.
I'm not sure...

All the lights are correct for all gears.
Funny thing. When I got in the car this morning. It shifted from N through reverse and into park no problem. After a short drive (45 mins). It was fine again.
I will try again tomorrow after my 1.5 hr drive to work.

I got it of eBay. I phoned the previous owner to ask if there was a trick to doing it. He claimed never to have had the problem before.

Yesterday I bought a Freelander GS 2.5 2001. When I picked it up is was parked in park.
But when I stopped for petrol on the way home I shifted it into park. Filled up. When I got back to the car it wouldn't start. Took me a few minutes before I realised park wasn't engaged.
It shifts into...

So yesterday. After checking a load of stuff I removed the cable connected to the MAF.
And the problem seems to have gone away. I've drive 25 miles with no reoccurrence.
So could it be the maf sensor? What I'll effect will there be of not havin it connected?
-
Erg is blocked.
I cleaned all the intercooler and stuff when I blocked th erg.
But worth checking again.
Is there a way to check the maf?
-
Ok so I checked the in tank pump and that seems fine.
Will have a look at the turbo hoses. Anything else worth checking? re air flow restriction.
Not sure if it's worth mentioning but I don't get smoke when the problem occurs.
-
I'll check the pump tomorrow. What live data would be useful?
-
Oh how would I check that?

Yes tank pump was changed about 4 months ago because I would running out of fuel with 1/4 of a tank left. I also tried removing the tank filler cap to see if it could be a block breather. Not sure if that'll work. Can the timing mod be changed without changing the timing chain?
