I have a 1996 Discovery 300 diesel with 2-inch lift. I go greenlaning about 6 times a year and need to fit a winch on the front for self recovery.

On cold start-up gear stick is loose to waggle about, after about 30 minutes warm up very difficult to move gear stick about - like stirring treacle.

This was a serious request for help / advice please.

Mostall other electrics work except central locking & red immobiliser led.
Instrument panel lights all come on including glow plugs orange squiggle (our first diesel!). When the squiggle goes out and you turn the key nothing happens.
