    rear stub axle wear

great thanks james, do you think the new bearings will be ok if the main shaft is a little worn down? I tried sliding the old bearings over and checking for any play but wouldn't detect any difference between the middle of the stub and the areas the bearings sit

    rear stub axle wear

i'm just in the process of rebuilding my rear axle replacing all the bearings and braking parts and I'm unsure whether i need to replace the rear stubs because of the wear or not. Below is some photos of them, there is some marking on the main shafts from the bearings but they don't appear to...

    Changing shocks

I use delphi deCarbon shocks with genuine land rover springs, standard height and rating. fantastic ride, a shed load better than my old bearmarch blue HD springs and britpart shocks. Although that could be because my new genuine springs are a softer rating than the old bear march HD ones? Ive...

    Incredibly P****d of with Craddocks

Give Island 4x4 a try. They always post same day as long as it's in stock (always is) and arrives the next morning! Prices seem very good aswell, cheaper than cradocks. I've used both Pad. and Crad. in the past and never again, postage times/customer service are shocking.

wrong rear propshaft fitted, any damage done?

yeah the trans box and diff bearings both seem nice and tight with no play at a glance, I'm having both the diff and the rear output shaft off this week to change the seals so ill have a good look. And Tottot' i have noticed a very harsh thud at times when off road, this may explain it!

wrong rear propshaft fitted, any damage done?

so the previous owner of my 90 had it for just 5 months and with respect, he didn't have a clue! The only thing he mentioned that he change was the rear propshaft, i should have known to check it before now. Anyway i went to remove if for the first time today and had to jack the chassis very...

    Chassis repair pieces

hi hogie, no worries.. I think to be honest my chassis was already thinking about retirement when i bought it 5 years ago. I didn't know it at the time but it had started to rot from the inside out so i think my waxoyling had little affect really, i guess it must have had a hard working life...

    Chassis repair pieces

I had rot in exactly the same area appear a few years back on my 1994 90 despite rigorously waxoyling the thing every year. I searched for the same replacement cross member but couldn't source one. In the end I got a good local fabricators to to take up the rear floor and build one for me. They...

    Rear rattling door

might not be much help but.. my rear door rattled because the top hinge was worn, i replaced all three hinges recently and its fixed! It could be that the impact has bent some of the hinges? Try pushing and pulling the door when its closed by holding the spare wheel, you might be able to locate...
