A few of the cheap Twisted Defenders

They'll have rusted away before they are sold

    Puma or TD5? Newbie questions

TD5 would be the newest engine I would personally consider, older engines are just simpler to fix. The TDCI is without doubt the quicker and more refined engine, but I have heard rumours of them not being able to cope with the abuse they tend to receive as a works vehicle. A decent remap will...

Ticking (alarm/immo) noise at first start, goes away after restarting

    Defender xs Headlights

I've got newer osram nightbreaker laser bulbs in mine and it made a massive difference to the old osram bulbs I took out(Not sure what they were). Would probably say the full beam is better than my 18 month old Golf, although the full beam on that is a lot worse than my old Focus.

Opinion on DRL in a bumper

Sidelights wired to an ignition based live would be my preferred option over fitting DRL's. Not as bright but would look a million times better in my opinion. Always thought aftermarket DRL kits look cheap and tacky whatever they are fitted to.

Share Your Rebuild Bodywork Horror Finds

Problem being that we have access to chemicals and treatments at work which aren't widely available like alocrom, which releases cyanide gases 24hrs after it's mixed. Generally speaking if anything is badly corroded it will be replaced and not repaired. When repairing corrosion we don't do...

    Speakers

If you want any sort of bass in a Defender you'll have to fit something more than the standard sized speakers imo. 6x9s at a minimum, possibly even amplified if you're going to try and use just them. Obviously these won't sit in the standard position. The Defender is a big space to fill with...

Share Your Rebuild Bodywork Horror Finds

I'm more intrigued as to what I may find and figure out how I could repair any body work issues. From what I have seen it is mainly corrosion where dissimilar metals join which is to be expected and would be easily remedied and wouldn't happen when it was reassembled. I'm an aircraft fitter by...

Share Your Rebuild Bodywork Horror Finds

Any horror stories with the bulkhead or body panels found during strip prior to a rebuild?? I have been considering rebuilding my Defender onto a Galv' chassis for a while, mainly so I know exactly what I have, and to give me something to do. However the thought of coming across a rotted out...

Buying a Tdci high mileage, ok or stay away?

Will quite happily say I haven't a clue if it is true or not, but for some reason it just sounds like it's probably true. The best option would be to Google common Transit engine issues/failures and see what crops up. It's a Ford so it will probably have it's fair share of common issues, but...

Buying a Tdci high mileage, ok or stay away?

A local specialist near me said they have more of the newer transit engined Defenders in for major mechanical problems than the older engines. They indicated that the transit engines aren't built to take the amount of abuse they can be subjected to when in the Defender. Part of me can't see how...
