I've disconnected the battery and pulled the door card off. From what I can see, it's all ok and seems to be moving freely. Currently scratching my head.

I've just had a quick look. I can hear the central locking doing its thing in the door when locking and unlocking. It's just not unlocking the door but will lock when the key etc is pressed.

I've done a bit of work over the weekend. Used the recommended electrical contact cleaner on the steering column. So far all seems well. New caliper, caliper carrier, discs and pads, changed the brake fluid. Went out for a lengthy test drive and for a brief moment, all is right in the world...

I have ordered a set of discs, I think the seized caliper has caused a warped disc. When it all gets hot it can be felt through the brake pedal.

I was thinking about that but I've never stripped a caliper.

I had cleaned and greased the slider pins before I took it out for a spin. The piston was a bit of a struggle to move but it seemed to free off . It took a little while for the problem to appear. I'm going to whip it all off in a bit and see how bad it all is.

It was a 1985 Daimler Ds420. So if I spray contact cleaner into the solenoid, and it just cleans it, will it stick again

I got rid of a car with a distributor on it last August. Will a contact cleaner keep the solenoid thingy lubricated?

Ignition sensor is now done. Hopefully. Drilled a hole in the column and sprayed that little bugger with lots of wd40. Seems to have done the trick. So far. Transmission fluid changed a couple of weeks back.

Right, Christmas and new year done. Got to sort out the ignition sensor fault before I can do anything else. So just about to get to it.
