    axle bearing?

Yeah you're right as with the circlip removed the half shaft can be pushed inwards further. From memory the half shaft butted up against something in the diff. It doesn't as I pushed in one in too far and it bound the steering up on the side.

    axle bearing?

One small thing, you may want to swap the fasteners for OEM ones when you bolt the swivel housing back on. I'm sure they should be 10.9 tensile strength bolts and from memory the original bolts have it on the head if you can get a look at someone else's. They're not expensive although it has...

Yeah I get it. I was wrong and backed down and apologised above

    LED headlights

Actually I was wrong on the CE testing, sorry. You are right about the UNECE regs. As far as I knew there are no rules governing lights so long as they would pass an MOT on an existing vehicle, and would only be a problem when submitting a vehicle for approval such as a kit car. It's Schedule 2...

    LED headlights

You're confusing yourself and seem to be unsure about CE and E marks and testing. https://www.conformance.co.uk/industry-sectors/ce-marking-automotive-industry#do-i-need-to-ce-mark-my-product You're also not reading the regulations. From the Vehicle Lighting Regulations Schedule 4 for example...

    LED headlights

I tried to quote leeds post, missed how the function works on here and now can't edit it to add it. The listing says E Marked and for RHD vehicles? MOT regs and Construction and Use makes no mention of E markings or otherwise to be 'legal', at least they didn't in the past, that may have...

    90 rebuild cost

Good for you. If you want to use them then use them. I'm not going to stop you, only warn you. To be honest you're likely not going to get to the stage of bolting it back together so the point is moot.

    90 rebuild cost

None on a Defender. In my past life, before moving to ships, I worked as a Design Engineer for a company doing work in the motor industry. On ships it's doubly important that no stainless fixings are used, just ask the Italian Engineer who ordered them them during the reassembly of a hot water...

    90 rebuild cost

You won't prevent corrosion by using stainless fixings, you can make it worse, trust me, don't use stainless fixings. http://www.designbyinitiative.com/files/8514/2711/8760/Galvanic_Table.pdf Which parts are NLA for a Defender? I've managed to get bits for an '89 110 from the main dealer quite...

WANTED Workshop Space to Rent near Portsmouth

Garage spaces are very cheap in Portsmouth yet they all have a waiting list. We've one off of Albert Road, down by Southsea Cycles, and the wait wasn't too long. There's also some down Exmouth Road. Last time I looked one or two business units in the Railway Triangle were up for about £300 a...

    90 rebuild cost

There's your answer. There'll never be the right conditions to start or finish it. Sell it before it either costs you more, or you loose more money by taking it apart, as it sounds like you're now falling in to sunk cost fallacy if it 'owes' you £4000. Renting a unit will cost even more, if you...

    90 rebuild cost

I'm currently bolting together a project someone unbolted and lost interest in when they realised it takes longer to bolt it back together than it took to take apart. If you're working on Land Rovers all day every day do you really want to spend your evenings and weekends doing the same thing...

What have you done to your Landie today.

It's from the fork lift, the diff is dry, which is a bigger problem. ;)

What have you done to your Landie today.

Got it back on four wheels. BiL dismantled it three years ago and got as far as buying a galvanized chassis and a few hundred pounds worth of new bits then put it in one of the storage sheds to languish in project hell.
