In case it will help future searches, I did manage to get under and check the voltage coming from the alternator and it wasn't putting out anything at low revs and then just about 12 or 13 at revs higher but intermittent. My guess is that the brushes in the alternator have worn, so at high revs...

Crank pulley looks fine as far as I can tell, and the pulley and belt seem to be at or around the same temperature, so alternator it is I guess. Thanks guys.

Also, and I know this may not going to be an exact science, but how urgent is this?
I need the car this afternoon to go check on horses and a couple of trips up and back tomorrow, but then I can do without it in the week as I've another car back on the road on Monday.

I've just started getting a battery warning light at low revs, below 2000rpm. My guess is it is going to be the alternator, but is there anything else it might be save me the cost and effort of an alternator change?

I did a replacement slave and master cylinder fairly recently on my td4 and put a new friction plate and pressure plate while it was all off.
The master and slave cylinders were both pre-bled, and after reading a bit from the forum users here it seems to be that the master cylinder pushrod isn't...

No, no key code on the new radios. I guess you might need the code if you refitted the old stereo after, but even then I don't think it'd be an issue

I've just done one recently in mine. I bought a facia adapter kit from a local motor audio place, that came with a pocket to fill the space below as I wanted a single din radio. The radio I bought (a pioneer) required me to go and buy an adapter for the electrics, but the halfords by me had one...

This might be worth thinking about then. To be fair, I get around 30mpg as it is, which is not to be sniffed at for sure, and performance wise it's not bad really. Obviously it's not rocket, but I don't get left standing as often as I thought.

Brilliant, thanks for all your input guys. I am happy with the performance of the freelander as it is, all i was thinking was an increase in fuel economy, looks like my best bet for that is to settle my left foot a bit.
