its a turbo diesel. me thinks its something to do with the turbo side. to stop excess build up of exhaust gasses in the intercooler.

i was thinking also it leaks on the compressor housing where the gasket splits through lack of use. because you have maybe a metal cast on the compressor, and a aluminium pipe attached, on a manifold of some type.
