The glow plugs are new last year and about 1,000 miles ago. That’s not to say there couldn’t be an issue there. There’s about a third of a tank of fuel in it. I have a hand primer bulb fitted before the fuel filter, so I can confirm that the...
How much fuel in the tank? If it's less than half full, a failed in tank pump can cause starting problems. Also as Mark said, check the modulation with the engine hot when you get it started.
Took the P38 out for a camp before a cycling event around Exmoor at the weekend. Some very steep hills in very hot weather and it was absolutely spot on.
Currently hovering over the buy button for new front and rear airbags for the P38...
Decided to brave the heat and strip it down. Question if I may...
I've got the clock cluster unplugged and out. Ign has been off for a couple of hours, is it safe to put the ign on to fiddle with the , now removed, blend motor? Or will the srs go...
Cycling the ign didn't work , then the blower wouldn't speed up then I remembered that I hadn't put 'back to ecu control' on the nano but then the blower speed started to respond without plugging the nano back in again. Might strip it all down...
Nano says the pot is duff. I've tried forcing it with the nano but getting no % movements. I remember unplugging the hvac last year, I think, which fixed something that wouldn't work. iirc, all motors were working as they should but the book...
Cycle the ignition a few times without starting. On mine I can usually hear the motors moving after a while. The docs say it self-
calibrates every X hundred uses, but who knows what the real number is !!
Yes it's the bottom one.
It's a long shot but try unplugging the power to the hvac to force a learn cycle. Failing that, flash the relevant motor terminals with a 9v battery (both ways) to give it a nudge
AC was regassed a couple of weeks ago, lovely..until today. Book came up, heat on full drivers side, passenger side cool, both set to low on the hvac. Cycling the ign didn't cure it so I had to carry on, 2 hrs round trip getting cooked.
Back home...
Just a thought, how old are the glow plugs and will it start with easy start or a small sqirt of brake cleaner.
If you have one failed flow plug, the engine is a damn pig to get going had you checked the modulation when it was running and at...
Welcome to Landyzone. You have jumped in on a thread from 2011 so don't hold out too much hope for a response. Better to start your own thread with details of you car and exactly what info you want.
So many words with so little meaning plus a one month trip in view. Must be retired or a politician to have that amount of spare time. If retired, then from an age when swapping bit on cars was a simple thing to do. Not so now with all the...

Running like clockwork! A slight oil leak from a failed filter housing seal and another from the oil cooler. Otherwise good as new.
Just a fan and transmission tunnel carpet to fit
Last year I put vacuum on my Blue P38 AC system, but didn't get round to having it gassed. Re-checked to day & it still has full vacuum, so hopefully gonna get it done this week. Green P38 AC is nice & cold, so that one is getting used...
The other next steps is a banch test like this: https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/97-p38-gems-eas-issue-which-seems-to-have-expanded.387706/post-5576496
As I said earlier (although the 8 speed) it will change, when doing manually it sort of takes it out of auto for a time.
When that times out it then goes back to auto mode, and could potentially just change down again.
We only notice it when...
GEMS has an additional cover plate, but I think the 1999 onwards it's part of the sump on Thor engine ? Not sure about diseasel though. The bell housing inspection plate should be enough to see the flex plate on all types ?
