    Exposed battery

Hi There. Unlike my previous 90 that had the battery under the seat my latest vehicle has the battery sat behind the truck cab on a tray attached to the roll cage, fully exposed to the elements. I have yet to wade this vehicle deep enough to submerge the battery but fear that when I do all sorts...

    Hi-Lo shifter

Thanks for the reply. The selector housing was fine but I did take the vehicle out today and tried one more time to get it to change between ratios. From being completely seized it suddenly clunked across and now it works fine! Didn't do anything different than before so hopefully it will stay...

    Hi-Lo shifter

Having got my vehicle out after lock down it was impossible to get the hi lo shifter to change between hi and lo ratios. It had always been very reluctant but now it's just impossible to move it. First thought was seized or gunked up selector or selector shaft but no. the selector links etc. are...

    Freelander 2 Glove Box Catch

Our Freelander 2 glove box catch recently failed, thankfully in the open position. I bought a genuine replecement, not cheap compared to the Chinese knock offs' only to find that when I removed the old 'broken' catch, a quick push of the moving bit of the catch sideways and it was fixed! So just...

    Starting issues

DOH!.. Okay, along with my starting issues I also had some serious (noisy) issues with my auto gearbox which I have also spent weeks trying to diagnose. As I said above I removed the second starter that I fitted and tested it. It was knackered. I bought a new, third starter, tested it and it was...

    Starting issues

I think I'll bench test the one that came off and remove the one I fitted and test that also. Not sure what I'll do if either of them work as I can't find a fault anywhere else in the system. Both starters worked fine and then just didn't. I guess I'll go through every inch of the system again.

Yeh, first thing I checked. Battery has plenty of power.

    Disco 1 Paint recommendations

Not sure about door tops and pillars but for things like towbars and bumpers I use a product from Halfords called 'Halfords Truck Bed Liner'. I have TBH and say I would never use it to line a truck bed but it gives a great matt black, slightly textured finsh to bumpers etc and it's pretty tough...

    Disco 1 3 Door 200tdi window seals

DOH! me again. Sorry, just realised you are on about the rearMOST windows and not the opening ones. Mine is a bobtail and doesn't actually have any rearmost windows, just the opening ones. Apologies for being so dim!

    Starting issues

Bought a land rover with a Dicovery 300Tdi engine with auto gearbox. About 3 months in it wouldn't start. There was nothing, pressed the button and not even a click. Got the test meter out, Battery fully charged, starter button working, relay fine and when the starter button was pressed I was...

    Disco 1 3 Door 200tdi window seals

I've looked at the seals on my 3 door and I'm not certain that anything on a 5 door would work due to the fact that these windows open. Best bet I think is a breakers yard (3 doors are getting rare though) or as previously suggested, Woollies or someone as they will probably have something with...

    Removing 300tdi auto box shifter

I'm trying to remove the shifter handle from my auto box but have hit a snag. I prised out the top cap/removed the 'C' clip/removed the spacer/slid out the spring loaded button/prised out the spring and it's here where the Haynes manual says 'prise out the locking clip then unscrew the retaining...

Wierd noise from 300Tdi Disco auto box

Good idea. Looks fairly straightforward a job. I'll order the bits.

Wierd noise from 300Tdi Disco auto box

Okay, so after lots of great advice from you guys I now know lots more about auto gearboxes but also the following. I had suspected from the start that the problem was low oil in the tranny. The problem was that whenever I tried to check the oil with the dipstick I couldn't get a reading as...

Wierd noise from 300Tdi Disco auto box

I've been driving Land Rovers for over 20 years but have just bought my first automatic. When I bought it everything sounded fine. I drove it home (120 miles mainly motorway) and parked it up. started it up again 1 week later and there is a hideous kind of rasping noise coming from the gearbox...
