Thanks for the replies. I had it in 1st gear and the HDC light was constant, didn't touch the throttle. Thinking about it 6mph going downhill towards the other car would be about right .

Anybody think that the HDC in a TD4 auto lets the vehicle move too quickly before cutting in? Took the FL up onto Dartmoor on New Year's Day with the family and the dog. We usually head up to Princetown but the road was chocabloc so nipped up a side road I know. Nice walk in the snow. Had to...

Nodge was correct. I'd dis-lodged the lock cable out of the retainer on the back of the lock as well as the arm for the lock/unlock button. I can get the door card off in a matter of minutes now :). Now to repalce the regulator in the rear passenger door. I'll then have done all of them bar the...

Replaced the drivers door window regulator yesterday due to the usual broken/rusted/seized wire issue. Pretty simple to do. Job's a good 'un I thought smugly last night. Popped to the shops this morning, pulled the handle to open the door but no affect. Tried locking/unlocking a couple of times...

I had a Series 2 SWB fitted with one of those Perkins out of a Montego if I recall correctly. It was fun to say the least with a top speed that series 2's were never meant to attain particularly with drum brakes all round . Fuel consumption was brillliant though easily getting 35+mpg...

I've done it a few times on VW Golf 1.9TDi's and it worked a treat. They have variable vanes in the turbo that gum up over time which ends up with the engine going into limp mode usually on any long uphill stretch.

2005 TD4, took the front bumper off. Every one of the screws on the wheel arch liners had to be battled with. Ended up resorting to an angle grinder after various abortive attempts to drill the f'ing things out.. Used the removal write up from here which was excellent. Been meaning to...

Mine was the water coming in via the plastic clips that hold the external trim across the top of the door. Took a while to track it down as the usual giveaway is the roof lining being wet which I didn't have. The water was running down inside the body on the drivers side and working it's way...

Another slightly related story. Bid and won a set of genuine FL1 roofbars on eBay before Christmas. Duly paid and waited. Contacted the seller just before the New Year who apologised cos it was Christmas etc. and he'd post them straight away. Two weeks later nothing so emailed again, no...

Topped up the rear diff oil. Had a play with the FBH pump in the rear wheel arch to see if I can get the FBH running. The fan starts and the water pump but it never ignites and stops after 45 seconds or so. I've never heard the pump ticking so worth a look. No joy putting 12 volts on it on the...

Finally got around to replacing the rear twin pipe exhaust box on my FL1 TD4 so I can fit a towbar. What possessed LR to fit that beer barrel sized thing in the first place, had to be the lowest point under the car? Got a genuine LR towbar from eBay. Went on easy enough but need to tap out a...

Drained and refilled the IRD on my TD4 Auto. Quick and easy job. I had prepared various breaker bars and scaffold poles for the drain and fill plugs based on stories about how difficult they can be sometimes. Both undid without any fuss using 6 sided sockets. Nothing of note on the magnetic...

Took my 2005 TD4 HSE for MoT. Pleasantly surprised needed a front roll bar drop link ball joint and a couple of tyres. All sorted. Two new tyres on the back. What a difference from my Discovery/Series/Classic RR days wondering just how much welding would be needed :(. Although the fuel tank...

Fitted an aux cable to my FL1 Becker satnav head unit. Had to lose the underseat CD player but everybody has music on their phones so it was a bit redundant anyway. Less than £4 from a well known auction site for a Blaupunkt aux cable and took 5 minutes to fit. Works a treat. Well worth the money.
